i learned HDR here:

http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tut...amic-range.htm

also, it might help to use a higher contrast ratio when it comes to background/foreground and use RAW mode (if your D40x has it)

edit first in RAW for the most flexibility

^^
thanks for the link;
my d40x does have RAW mode, but for some reason, CS2 doesn't support D40x raw (only the d40)

try this:

http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html

also, i didn't see it right away in my attempt to escape from my office... look for an update for CS2... i know there's one there - it should fix some bugs if you haven't already updated

for the record, i don't see how there would be a difference between the D40x and the non-X with regard to RAW compatibility... then again, Nikon is know to change those things without end-users knowing... forcing an upgrade on our part.

best of luck...

dahkyne,

thanks for the links. I already came across those in my search yesterday for D40x RAW support; hopefully i can locate my Nikon software to utilize the RAW capabilities.

no worries... i understand how frustrating it is to get a new camera and not have support for it in a photo editor.
