Thanks caskyline. I was hoping you would reply. One last question. I know you usually do at least 2 layers of tape (because of the orange duct tape). But if I just have the blue, would I need more than a single layer of tape? Thanks again.

I'm anti-blue tape... I get more chips driving around locally then I do on the long trips anyhow. Plus, gotta look nice for the road pics

But I totally understand why everyone else runs with it.

Edit: Yeeesh, I resized the pics. They were huge.

Ok guys and gals. Here is my blue tape job before and after my trip from CA to WA. I did two layers and only got one rock chip on the hood that hit hard enough to go through both layers but didn't do much damage at all. Also threw the stockers back on for the trip. So overall I would highly recommend the blue tape idea to anyone going on a long road trip. Worked great

The only bad news...... I took my grill off to wash off the bugs and crap and while drying it, I DROPPED IT!!!!!! BLAM right on the concrete paint first! So after all that taping, its chipped to hell and gone now. So I am going to put my stocker back on until I get the other repainted. GAH I am so pissed at myself....

After (sorry, crappy iPhone pics):

So blue tape minimizes the car from rock chips on the long drives? What's the difference if each car is driven daily on short drives along your local roads and you don't blue tape it? Aren't there small pebbles and rocks every where you go? So why don't you Blue Tape lovers just leave the tape on everyday since I'm pretty sure of you guys use your cars as a daily driver.

My point exactly. Don't you guys get on the Highway anyways on your daily drive????? So, what's the point in just taping it for one long trip versus your daily drive commute on your local area when you get on get off the Highway around your town???? So if you fear rock chips that bad why not just leave the blue tape on. I guess the point is it prolongs the integrity of your paint job but still don't see the point in taping for a long drive versus your daily driving around town? You have bugs and pebbles everywhere you drive short or long.

It's also kinda like saying...why wash your car, it gets dirty every time you take it out. Some people want to take better care of their cars more than others.
