You should do it on black also in a matte finish. Would still look good IMO

tape right above the grove so the spray gets in there..

what kind of paint did you use? does it ever chip? did you clear coat over it?

i think if i left the groove, it woulda gave it a "lip look" so i painted it as well

Then it would match by matte black headlights. However, I like the way the "diffuser" looks color-matched on a black car.
