I would also love to know the technique.

Im guessing...
80 grit sand
120 grit sand
maybe even 180 grit sand
then mothers metal polish untill desired finish?

Sean we should get together in the next few weeks Dustin has been asking about polishing as well. Bring a few things down and we could polish it, I have a couple buffing wheels and several compounds of polish and tones of grits of sand paper from 80-4000.

I would have to revisit the process to do a step by step DIY it has been 8-9 months since I polished anything. I know I had trouble finding any info on this when i was doing it and just took a stab at it my results were not as good as the OP but I think i never spent the time required.

I hand built from aluminum the cut outs in the hood frame and the leading edge of the rad support and polished them as well as the TT piping that wasnt polished.

When I polished anything I would start with 180 if it needed to be smoothed meaning any casting marks etc. Then go to 320,400,600 then to the wheel with some compounds and roushes
