Newb question...What does Rig shot mean?

Camera is attached to the car via a pole held on by magnets, suctions cups, etc. Some are elaborate, others are pretty simple. Most of the rigs that photogs use on this site are DIY suction cup based. Here is a setup shot of what the rig looks like (w/o the camera attached):



Car is rolled slowly, usually with the engine off, and the shutter is left open anywhere from about 1-30 seconds (longer exposures won't be as sharp) depending on how much background blur is desired and the lighting conditions. Pole is edited out in post processing.

 

That's the hard part!!!!

just wondering, exactly how is the pole edited out?

 

I use the clone stamp tool in Photoshop. I am not a PS whiz, but I haven't had any issues with learning how to edit out the rig. Can be time consuming sometimes depending on the background of the image. Here is a before and after:

Thanks Calvin...yea, it was last summer when we spoke. I, too, have a 10' pole, but I finally went out and bought the 10-22 to make up for the short pole <---HAHA! anyways, I havent even tried it out but once. I either pumped my mounts too hard or the hood was too hot and left 2 circles on my hood. Since then, I was too scared to try.

I'm gonna try again, but on a cold hood and only pump to the red line this time. I'll keep ya posted.
