OFFICIAL Rolling Shots Thread!
Camera is attached to the car via a pole held on by magnets, suctions cups, etc. Some are elaborate, others are pretty simple. Most of the rigs that photogs use on this site are DIY suction cup based. Here is a setup shot of what the rig looks like (w/o the camera attached):

Car is rolled slowly, usually with the engine off, and the shutter is left open anywhere from about 1-30 seconds (longer exposures won't be as sharp) depending on how much background blur is desired and the lighting conditions. Pole is edited out in post processing.

BUt SLR's are usually really heavy -- (esp to be dangling from a pole suspended in the air)...those suction cups must REALLLLY hold!!!???
yep. but keep in mind the car is only moving about 2 mph.
Depends on how much background blur you want and if you can stop your lens down enough not to overexpose the image given the desired shutter speed. Neutral Density filters allow you to shoot in the middle of the day and get longer exposures. I took these yesterday with a 9 stop ND filter (super dark), manual mode, 2 seconds, f/13, ISO 200.

Yeah it costs a grip for the 9 stop filter. hvstar.net doesn't carry it and I didn't want to have to stack filters, I just wanted the darkest one that Hoya makes.
