Infiniti's problem isn't competing with the Germans or Koreans. It's competing with themselves. The minute they started selling the GT-R stateside, they created their own problem. If they give the new Q60 the power it needs to compete with the Germans, they run the risk of getting flak from GT-R buyers and losing GT-R sales. If they don't make the new cars more powerful and competitive they run the risk of losing the brand.

Also, pricing is an issue. If they create a car that seriously competes with the Germans and take the price too far up market. Instead of giving the new car a try many people would be complaining that it's not a BMW or a Mercedes. Either way you look at it. Infiniti's has a tall order to fill and a lot of potential buyers to please. I pose a better question. Let's say infiniti's does create the next coupe with the right amenities, looks, and power. If it cost the same as am M series or an AMG. How many of you besides myself would buy it. I mean we all have an idea of what the new Q60 should be but, the better question is. How many of you are willing to pay for it. One more thing. I know the GT-R isn't an infiniti but infiniti is ow ed by Nissan and America is the ONLY country where infiniti exist so yes they're competing with themselves.

You're right; they are competing with themselves and unfortunately I think they defeated themselves in 08 when they gave up on the 35. This is the car that built Infiniti. It wasn't the G20, it wasn't the Q45t (although that was a bad a$$ car) or the early M (also another bad car). Infiniti as we know it was built on the 35 and the company gave up on its primary market. Trying to steal BMW, Benz and Audi drivers should have never been their business and they made it their business. Stealing German luxury owners may have been their original plan (I don't know) and the G35 was just a happy accident, but they should have ran with what they created instead of going back to compete with BMW.

The way I see it, Infiniti had a charm all its own. It almost created its own market. Luxury appointments in a drivers car without the upturned nose of its drivers. Ever since they canceled the 35, they've gone ever less a driver car, and more luxury/tech car. Unfortunately for Infiniti, I don't think that was ever their market. I hear nothing about these newer infinitis other than they feel "disconected". I think you can all agree that part of the charm of the 35 is its " racecar-like" feel. Its fun to drive, and not disconnected at all. Infiniti has lost its soul and its trying to find it with German-car buyers. They need to go back to their roots.

The G35 is NOT a luxury car anymore, why can people not understand that? This isn't 2004 anymore and even when the G35 was new, it was an entry level luxury car at best. For those of us living in the present, the G35 is out classed by new econo cars in terms of luxury and features.

Omg, here we go again with this BS. Idgaf what kind of options you put in an econobox, that doesnt matter. A car is always going to be what it was sold as. In 2005 tundras were the size of a current Tacoma, that does not mean we retroactively change its designation just because trucks have gotten bigger. Its still considered a full size truck.

Furthermore, a BMW from 1988 is still a BMW. A luxury car company. The definition of a luxury car is not how many knick knacks come with it. A KIA optima, its not a luxury just cuz you can opt for leather and power windows.

The difference comes when the car is made by a luxury car company. A luxury car company has no economic cars. Last time I checked there was no option for a $13,000 gas saving econo G35 with crank windows and hubcaps.
