Plenum dyno data

So I installed my kinetix plenum and Z-tube today and although most of you would not consider a gtech pro a dyno here are the results anyway. Stock the car registered 216hp. With K&N drop in I gained 3 to 219hp. I picked up another 3 with the addition of Mobil 1 5W30 to 222hp. I put the tube and plenum on...drove it like I stole it around the block and onto the freeway for 2 onramps and back home. I purged the air from the cooling system (very important) and then went to a little industrial area by my house to get a little data. First, the plenum is not loud at all, neither is the Z-tube. With the radio on you would be hard pressed to hear the difference. After 4 0-100 runs here are the results. Run 1. 237 Run 2. 238 Run 3. 236 and Run 4. 238. It is about 65 here in San Diego with about 30% humidity. The pull above 4K is amazing and the tires (with the slushbox) actually break a little sideways at the 1-2 shift.
Lessons learned-
1st-Clamp the coolant lines at the back of the pleanum before removing them, this will minimize the air getting into the system.
2nd-Buy an inch pound torque wrench to tighten the plenum
3rd-Tighten the plenum bolts in a criss-cross pattern for uniform load.
4th-The ECU is a learning computer. Although resets may sometimes be necessary I don't think they matter that much unless you dramatically alter airflow (like a full exhaust with headers).
Anyways, thanks for reading and just for reference I have used the gtech for years in conjunction with dynos and have found them to be within 3-5 HP of a dyno every time. I have an HKS muffler and JWT pop charger on the way and will give more data when they are installed.

the oil seems to be a lighter weight, so it wouldn't stick as easily, not saying you would gain anything from it but its a theory

Some numbers are better than no numbers.....even if it's not 100% accurate.

Thanks for the info, good to see some of the increases you got.

I'm using 0w30...maybe i gained even more hp since it is even lighter in weight...lol

Just messin with ya. Good info though. I'm sure the combination of those mods made the car a hell of a lot funner to drive. You probably got at least 10whp with those mods.

You would be surprised with a fluid change in general. Horsepower TV changed fluid out in a Camaro, I believe, to Royal Purple synthetic. After changing the fluids in the motor, tranny, and differential they noticed a 9 rwhp gain on the dyno. Couldn't believe it either!!!

This is interesting. I wonder if there's been any studies done with Mobil1.

How do you go about purging the air from the cooling system?

On the discussion of oil, I was at Murray's Auto Parts and they had an oil additive that was on display. Apparently, this additive has adhesive properties where it “sticks” to the moving parts of the engine. Would this be a product that would benefit our cars? Does it have any performance properties? Or, is this simply marketecture?

I believe you are correct. Is this stuff good for higher performance cars or best used with old beaters that are on their last leg?

Going from dirty dino oil to synthetic could increase HP. Synthetic lubricates better and reduces friction, which in turn decreases losses caused by friction heat.

My personal experience is with Slick 50 . . . . which works best on new engines just after break-in.

Not good for worn out beaters.... @ ALL.
