Wink DC Sports Header & Fujitsubo Exhaust, Y-Pipe Install

Just installed DC Sports headers and the complete Fuji Exhaust system. The install was done by StreetImage in Baldwin Park, CA. Their service and workmanship was supurb. A clean and professional performance shop!!

My goal was to attain more power without alot of noise. I've been reading and researching the various exhausts for several weeks and read many posts about how the Stillen, Injen & Borla exhausts were all awesome but just made too much noise, so I decided on the Fuji based on posts made by roneski,Cruz, jdj27 and a few others.

I always felt that the stock exhaust and manifold protested WOT shifts at 5500-6000 RPMs. There was alot of vibration and noise when I shifted through the gears, especially from 2nd to 3rd and from 3rd to 4th. As I drove out of StreetImage and entered the freeway on ramp, I punched the throttle and shifted through the gears. The shifts and sound were smooth as silk, no vibration and no load noise. I think the vibrations and sound was most likely caused by back pressure from the restrictive stock exhaust manifold. The next difference I noticed was how much quicker the car responded when I accelerated on the freeway to pass in either 5th or 6th gear. I felt a significant difference in top end power. Bear in mind that this is all butt dyno, but the Fuji is about as quiet as the stock system inside the cabin, so the noise factor in butt dyno power perception doesn't apply here.

After I got off the freeway I opened her up on a long stretch of road at WOT with the windows rolled down (there was a break in the downpours we've been having in SoCal). The sound of the Fuji is smooth and deep. It makes the stock exhaust sound like a ricer. I loved it. I felt a significant difference in power as a result of both the header and exhaust mod. I found myself grinning from ear to ear which is what mods are all about right? It was money well spent. Can't wait until my Motordyne Plenum Spacer arrives.

I think besides the spacer.. I think you need to get hi flo cats to complete it off.
by the way, much was the labor for the header? and how much was the overall labor?
thanks and enjoy your new mods..

I know you said that the Fuji system made the stock exhaust sound ricey, but how does the fuji system sound exactly. Does it keep the nice exotic sound the stock has? I have been wanting an exhaust system but fear that I won't like the sound. Thanks

Vic,
I've thought about the high flow cats. I'm hesitant because I live in CA and don't want to deal with having to remove them for emissions testing. Also, lots of guys have complained about a raspy sound that hi-flo cats make. I was quoted an installed price. It was $1340 for the fuji and $760 for the headers. The fuji exhaust and Y-pipe costs $1300+ everywhere, so I thought I got a good deal on the install. I've seen the DC header for about $450, so the install labor was about $300. Took them over 5 hours to install the header.

Skyline,
The fuji sounds simular to stock but deeper. I feel it more than I hear it. The stock exhaust sounds higher pitched than the fuji. It was just the sound I was looking for. Inside the cabin there is no droning our annoyingly loud sound.

isn't that hi-flo cat still has catalic converter on it? I think the cat delete pipe is the one that's illegal.
300 dollars for installing header is not bad..

1Z - Are you satisfied enough with the power gains that you feel keeping the stock cats is a worthwhile trade-off?

Also, given your combo of mods, I'd like to hear your impressions when you install the big spacer.

GT - The gains from the headers & exhaust was really noticable, especially today, the day after. I'm really happy with the mods. I've thought about the hi-flow cats but I'm worried about emissions testing in CA. Maybe someone from CA can tell me if they passed emissions testing with hi-flow cats. Another issue for me is that hi-flow cats increase the noise level and can sound raspy. Theres a G meet here in SoCal on Saturday. I'm sure someone will have hi-flow cats that I can check out.

Well, hit this thread again after the meet. I'm interested in your opinion on the cats. My reservations are the same as yours, and your satisfaction even without doing the cats has me back on the fence.

I'll be installing the Stainless DC headers,Crawford high flow cats and pro-1 Y pipe
in a week or so. I already have the RS*R Exhaust. So I'll see if I can post a Clip of the sound on my web site.

Thanks Guys

Glad to hear that you're happy with it. I need to look at getting some headers next.

Through all my mods ive done putting test pipes on my car i felt the most power increase by far..... With stock exhaust it makes what some may say is a raspy sound but it makes the stock exhaust sounds mean i think, as soon as i got my injen exhaust bye bye "rasp" i dount you will have a rasp with cats, your grin will get bigger if you get cats. A friend of mine has a Z with Nismo exhuast and RT Cats and the sound is depressing..... depressing because its not coming out of my car, sounds fn sweet, i know the fuji and the nismo are very similar so i dont think you should have probs. as far as being in cali im sure with the rts or crawford cats you will pass smog....

Thanks for the insights. I'm attending a SoCal G meet on Saturday. I'm sure there'll be alot of G's there with hi-flow cats. I can't wait to hear the opinions of other G owners on their cats.
