Please let all of us know how this works out. And where it's installed. Would a "H" pipe do the same w/o any penalty? Would be alot easier to install

z - tube and K&N
i would love to see some more dyno results on
Z tube + K&N
and
G tube + K&N
since the uncertainity here is where the resonator box
would help 3k to 5.5k stock and hp while giving away
a bit hp at the top end (> 6k till redline)
since i have recently put back my stock airbox from stillen cai
(due to insurance problems..), and noticed a lack of pull in
the high rpm (>4k)

Hey Dave,
for a 5at with only an intake mod, 14.32 is a very respectable
quarter mile time !
but yeah, i would really want to see more proof on the arguments
on the "real" purpose of the resonator box as opposed for decreasing
the amount of intake noise only.
Notice also that the rev up motor in 05 6mt still employes the same
intake tube ... so i figure out that resonator box might be there for
some reasons
Helmhotz ? ... that rings the bell, but i would have to do more research on that one

Prove to me that this is a bad mod and I will remove it!

Lower plenum runner length and plenum volume are the keys to proper intake tune. Pre-throttlebody resonators appear to be solely for noise cancellation.
I for one have the 1/2" motordyne/Z-tube/KN combo and I know it works. Pulls strong all the way from idle to redline. No flat spots at all.

Dont know. All I can say is that even though the Maxima has a VQ, the tune, cam profile/timing, fuel mapping are different. Totally different car with a different purpose. All I know is I have the KN/Z-tube and it did NOT cause me to lose anything. And I like the sound. I had a CAI and it definitely caused a loss of low-end. So I know what that feels like. Took it off the next day. At least I was able to sell it.

if anyone else reads this, i took out my K&N, and left the z-tube in the car. After talking to the mechanic at Infiniti, we discussed several aftermarket mods, and i asked for his input. He said the K&N filter is a great filter, adds great sounds, and for the most part, a little more power for most cars. . .BUT, for teh G35, it will not improve performance over teh stock filter. It will of course provide a more aggressive sound, but as performance goes, the stock filter was designed very well. I listented to him, especially after experiencing sh*ty MPG with the k&N, and a slight improvement back with stock. as far as power, nothign noticeable, but better safe than sorrie.

Im by no means an expert on this subject but correct me if Im wrong. Isn't the Z-tube a short ram air intake? As apposed to something like an Injen, Nismo, or K&N Typhoon CAI. I think the reason so many people are complaining of no gains with their Z-Tube *insert air filter* mod is because its not a complete CAI. The K&N puts the airfilter right down there in the front bumper (use a bypass valve, or the K&N comes with a water proof cover), and I most deffenitely feel the extra mid range power, and my engine screams when I floor it.
