5th is grinding

i changed my gear oil a few weeks ago with amsoil 75W-90 and lately ive been experiencing grinding going into 5th at speeds between 35-45. it seems to happen regardless of tranny temp (though more common i think at lower tranny temps) and at lower revs. comments?

Did it only start after you changed the fluid?

I just recently had to replace my transmission due to 5th & 6th gear grind. 5th would grind regardless of rpm/speed. 6th would go into gear without grinding if I babied it. I replaced the trans fluid but it was too far gone at that point and I had to replace it. I ended up getting an 05 trans with 34k miles on it, and so far no complaints *knocks on wood*

How many miles are on your car? The 06 transmissions are supposed to be a heck of a lot better than the 03's. If you have to get a new trans I would recommend the CD009. But for now, just skip 5th, that's what I did

mine did it pretty much all the time, i just got used to it

if you're still under warranty, have them replace it w/ CD009

i have about 54k right now, change was done about 4 weeks ago. didnt have any issues before. the fluid looked like **** and definitely needed changing. the grind happens irregularly so im having trouble identifying the problem exactly. under conditions where i anticipate grind, i give the engine extra revs before engaging the gear.

ill mention it to infiniti next time im there, but theyve been pretty ****ty lately about honoring waranty claims, especially since i didnt have my fluid changed there and im not running nissan oil

Just call Infiniti Consumer Affairs and b!tch if the dealership won't honor your warranty. I think the transmission is covered until either 60k or 70k.

^ if you have anything other then the Nissan Matic bs they might just laugh at you.

Some people have had the warranty taken away on the tranny because they had different tranny fluid then what is recommended " Might cause damage if if you use anything other then Nissan S/J-Matic" something like that in the manual so just a heads up.

I swapped out my tranny 3 times, always that 5th or 6th gear grind. It was under warranty back then. It started to grind again after a few months from my last swap and I've learned to live with it. Works okay if i baby it. These tranny's blow.

I just installed a used one in my car (06). My problem was not going into second. Never had any problems with 5th or 6th. You have extended warranty and should have no problems. Yours is the CD009.

Its the syncros in the 5th gear cluster causing your problem. Fluid at this point is not going to help the situation. Clutch can make the problem more pronounced, even assist in causing the damage, but will not fix it once the syncronizers are damaged. My 03 is doing the 5th gear grind if I shift even at a normal effort. I really have to take a "pause" to allow the gears to syncronize before enguagement. I am going to go a little different route than most others. I am going to repair mine. Being in the business myself, this is not anything that I have not done 50 times anyway. Perhaps Ill shoot some video to let you guys see what is involved.

Wish there was an easy fix for ya, friend. Just be nice to it and when the tranny comes out for a clutch replacement, you might want to consider an overhaul or swap!

Chris
