An Odd Request

Hey Everyone

My car is almost complete (Yea right). I have one idea that i wish to pull off, but im a bit lost as to how to do it.

I plan on doing my own FMIC spray design. It will be based on the theme i am running on my car. My problem is, what i need to have for it is a cutout of the design i want to spray. I dont know where to either GET or CREATE this cut out for the project. This is something i have no idea about.

So basically, what i want is a flat piece of w/e, with the design i want cutout in the center. The measurements should match the size of the FMIC, which i will have once i remove the bumper or call Stillen.

Anyone know how to get this done?

I know the first thing your going to ask is "What is the design?" Well i can tel you, nobody has done it yet, and i wont disclose it simply for the surprise effect. I want everything complete at once.

Thanks in advanced broskis.

You can prolly get this secret "design" lol done at a graphics store, and just have the inner outline removed and use the rest of the template as the part to block the IC area that can't be sprayed.

Or you can get a machinist to upload the design to a CAD program and machine the template out of aluminum, in case you need it on a more durable material.

Maybe if you wanna go cheap you can print out the design, get it enlarged at Kinko's, and then tape it to a piece of aluminum sheet from home depot and dremel it out.

It shouldn't be too bad, however it's hard for people to give you some kind of accurate advice since your plan description is pretty broad there.

GL

What does it need to be made out of alum tube, or a flat piece? I have a plasma cutter at work that I could do something out of steel. I have used a place that laser cuts but it is expensive. Its hard to give you advise since you aren't disclosing many details.

Also not to sure on how efficient the intercooler will be depending on how you block it.

Well, if it makes it any easier, just assume that i am going with a custom logo. It will be two colors: the background being black, and the center piece being white.

LOL you guys arent geting me. I wont be COVERING the FMIC. I will be spray painting it. Just like companies spray paint "AMS" or "GREDDY" on their intercoolors, except mine will be black and white.

Yea basically. I want to make a cut out of the design i want, and to give me the negative so i can first spray paint the whole IC black, then do the design in white.

why not take the design to a graphics shop and have it printed out on vinyl, so its easy to put on and remove for paint

Yea i was thinking that, problem is, i dont know a graphics shop to do it in LOL.

It would be awesome if i can have 2 vinyls: one for the actual design, to spray paint around it, and the opposite to spray paint the actual design. That way i dont have 2 coats of paint. It would look much more cleaner as well.

Paint the whole intercooler black, then make 1 stencil to come back in with the white. Design the graphic in illustrator and have it printed in 1:1 scale, or if you know some with a plotter it would be much easier. Or if you have steady hand use an exacto knife.
