What about remote start?
What about remote start?
I had remote start installed on a 98' Trans Am at one time, but stopped using it because it was bugging other electronics in the car.
Does anyone here have remote start on a G35 or G35 Coupe?
Does anyone know anything about it?
Does it work with/separately your remote entry/securtiy system?
Any input appriciated.

Re: What about remote start?
I had a remote starter install with my dealer installed alarm. It works great (2 clicks on the lock buttom of my OEM remote). The only problem is that the range on the OEM remote is so short, you have to be next ot the car to start it which makes it virtually worthless.
Re: What about remote start?
I don't want to sound pretentious but I believe I can answer any remote start questions you have. I've installed hundreds of them, and I know the Gs electrical system well enough to design and build custom electronic mods for it.
Korz has a remote start on his Wifes G35 and loves it. I don't personally have one on my car (yet).
Make sure you fully trust the place that is going to install it. The G/Z is one of the harder cars to work with because everything is computer controlled.
Using the OEM remote may work, if you have good range from it. The range on the factory keyfob varies greatly from one car to the next (mine works from really far away, some only work at 10 ft.)
Let me know if you have any specific questions

Re: What about remote start?
Yea i have been trying to find a good shop to do my installation for the remote start...i want to use the neutral wire as the safty sensor for remote start...but i heard its really hard to do it
Re: What about remote start?
It's hard if you don't know what you're doing. Most shops will not install a remote start for these cars because of liability issues. Plus, many of them do not know how to locate a neutral safety wire from the ECM. It's possible, as I've done this to my coupe 6mt.

Re: What about remote start?
Yea i know...i would not do it myself...but there aren't any shop that i know of would do remote start on 6mt over here on the northeast...but this is the area where remote start is very useful and important in the winter, seriously northeast G owners should get together and find a place to do group remote start install...

Re: What about remote start?
Hello,
I had a Viper 791 with Remote Start installed in my G35 AT Sedan. It is completely separate from the stock alarm and, in fact, the stock alarm is completely intact. The reason this alarm appealed to me was because it is a two-way alarm--the car reports back to the remote. Along with that comes increased range. This is accomplished by a slightly larger remote with a little antenna, and an antenna that mounts on the inside of the windshield at the top, up in the tinted area (at least that's where my installer put it).
I have to say that I'm a little disappointed in that the range is not good enough for the car to tell me when it's been violated in most situations. It doesn't penetrate buildings well at all, so, unless I'm at home or at a friend's house with the car right outside, it won't be able to contact me.
BUT, the range is still useful for the remote start. Once I get out of whatever building I was in, I can usually start the car if I so desire. Say goodbye to my friends or walk leisurely to it, and it will be nice and cool (So Cal, AC on) when I get there.
Unfortunately, the system is a bit expensive just for an extended range remote start. I got it for $475 installed, but the installer was my cousin's friend who works in the car electronics industry. My local tint shop quoted me something like $700.
Oh yeah, one minor problem. I usually leave my headlights on Auto. When I remote start, the headlights go on (day or night). If I decide to turn off the engine without ever having put the key in the ignition, the headlights will not turn off! This is slightly annoying, but I rarely do it. I've asked my installer to look into it, but I haven't really rushed him and haven't heard back yet.

putting the antenna behind the tint can cause range issues. Also, if the installer 'coils' up the excess antenna wireing it can reduce range significantly. I believe all you need to do is pulse the door pin after the car shuts down for the lights to shut off, use a factory rearm wire and attach it to the drivers side door pin. That should fix the problem.
Where in the North East are you? I travel quite a bit and might be somewhere where we can work together some weekend!

I'm in Baltimore right now, and I'll be up in Newark, New Jersey before much longer, then a few other places in NY. That is, unless I find a better job sometime soon!

Re: What about remote start?
I've had a remote start on my 6MT for well over a year. One of the best choices I have ever made. Awesome in the winter, and super during the summer with the A/C auto on. Like someone said earlier... this is one of the hardest cars to remote start. My installer said 5 hours for the install. It took four guys 7 hours to install the system. One of them didn't work for the shop and was a hired gun who drove in from NYC to help the shop owner. It was the first of it's type they have done and could probably knock it out in five hours now.
Then again, mine wasn't exactly a typical install. : P
