Looking to buy a 2008 Infiniti G35x

I'm in the process of buying a 2008 G35x. What should I watch out for? I'd the CVT transmission good?

Thanks for your input!!

Electronics cost a lot to repair on these cars. Be prepared for costly repairs after the ten year flip.

Are you saying when they get ten years old the electronics start to fail?

Fairly. Infiniti is an extra level luxury car and a lot of the electronics and other parts for this car are rather pricy. I have to budget a certain amount for maintenance for my car, but it was also meticulously maintained. Therefore I don't see major replacement prices...

99% of cars wil be fine, but understand repair costs are higher then your usual car.

It's actually a very reliable car; the 08 is one of the best ranked g35s, reliability wise.

There are a few niggles to look out for if buying one used:

Steering wheel /Window switch trim scratches (foxed in late 08s)

Deteriorating / detaching Window trim

Dirty throttle bodies (rpms dip way down on startup.)

Lifting corners on gauge cluster lid

Missing cupholder insert

Driver seat bolster wear

Brake wear (the oems get torn through very rapidly.)

All I can think of off the top of my head. My 08xs has been pretty solid.

It's not a cvt, btw. Standard 5sp auto.

Hth.

Really? The dealer had it listed as a CVT. I've heard the CVT can be problematic so if it is just their standard 5 speed auto that's better.

It's not. It was in the write up with all of the accessories. Probably a secretary's mistake.

How many miles are on the car? Does the dealer have service records? Does the Autocheck/CarFax say anything?
Even after the autocheck/carfax says the car is clean, I'd still meticulously check all the body panels to ensure the car has never been in an accident. Repaired damage from the bodyshop is easy to tell if you know what to look for. You just have to feel the body panels and see if there is any difference in the paint. Check for uneven gaps.

I'd bring a mechanic if I were you to check out the whole condition of the car before buying.

Lastly, how much is the car being offered for?

I have an 08X and it's solid. Many of the above items showed on my car but the dealer without me asking for them to do it replaced most everything; brakes, gauge cluster lid, window seals, steering wheel, trim pieces. It was like a new car after a short visit.

^ Yeah but the warranty is probably gone since it was only covered for 4 years/60k miles. Given that 2008 is 5 years ago (about to be 6,) I doubt the OP's car is still under warranty.

Also, let me add one more thing to the list: Wheel bearings. They fail pretty early and should be checked before powertrain warranty is up so you can get free replacements.

Powertrain warranty is 6 years/70k miles.

Quite true, but then it would be probably be sold by an Infiniti dealer, not an independent dealer. Infiniti dealers love those type of cars because they can always make more money in their service department by claiming warranty issues with the car before selling it off again and getting reimbursed by Infiniti Corporate.

An independent dealer cannot do that.

I know this thread is old, but I'm just going to leave this here for anyone arriving here from a search:

What to watch out for in buying a G35??

I'd say you absolutely want to make sure you have the oil pressure measured!

Well, the only infiniti that has a CVT transmission is the JX looking SUV. 07 and up you don't have to worry about the oil pressure. as for the other problem listed. I am seeing more of those now but i have not seen that on my car (knock on wood) and i am at 68k w/ F.I. These cars are built a little tougher then the 1st gen
