If your in a hurry you can leave the coolant lines attached and clean it all up on the car. I just finished and going out for a drive I'll let you guys know if it was a bad ideal leaving it attached

You can leave the line attached if you do not plan on doing a coolant flush , just a tighter space to work in is all ...

Can anyone confirm that the AWD cooler gasket is the same as RWD?

The coolers are different as the filter for AWD faces forward for clearance of the front differential.

Since different cooler, wanted to make sure it's the same o-ring

My 2004 G35 with 172k miles had oil around the housing and oil pan. I cleaned the bottom well to try to find out where it was coming from and it seemed like around the oil filter housing. After reading this post and about how commonly this ring fails I figured this was my problem.

However, I'm not sure the o-ring on mine had failed. Removing the 22mm bolt took barely any torque seemed like it was loose. If it was loose this would have caused the leak.

If I didn't already have the o-ring in hand, I likely would have just torqued down this bolt to spec at the next oil change to see if it made any difference. Would have saved $8 and some time if it had resolved the problem.

The original o-ring fell out when I separated the cooler housing and comparing the original to the replacement seems a little bigger. Not sure if the original shrunk or it's been redesigned. Didn't seem to be anything wrong with the original though so I bet tightening it up would have fixed my issue.

Just replaced this gasket on my '08 G35X this afternoon. Couple of comments....
  • Member above asked if the gasket referenced in the OP (21304-JA11A) is the same for RWD and AWD and can confirm that it is. I know it was from 3 years ago but hopefully this helps someone who runs across this in the future.
  • This may not apply to all years or maybe it's only applicable to AWD models, but it is not necessary to drain the oil from the pan. I measured (and replaced) what was "lost" when removing the filter as well as the stud and it was just under 200ml (or 0.2 quarts).
Fingers crossed that this was the culprit in my case. All signs indicate that it was but I'll be checking for leaks on a daily basis for a while just to be sure !!

Nice pics.

Still not sure why Nissan refers to this piece of junk as an oil cooler but I guess they can get away with it.

I grabbed
this one this one
on amazon got my 2006 G35x. Figured I'd throw it in here for anyone who prefers Amazon Prime. Unfortunately the OEM ring isn't available through Prime. I'll be putting it in sometime this week, I'll try to post pictures to clear up some of the placement issues (even though that seems to be cleared up).
