IMO gift cards are fine, as long as they are tastefully done, meaning its something everyone could want and use. A useless gift (crappy 'rustang') is just as bad as a useless gift card. IIRC, people liked the Target and BestBuy gift cards. (I used the BB gift card to help buy Paul's christmas present
