Places for oil change

Has anyone stopped going to Southwest Infiniti after the 2 year free oil change is over? That is what happened to me. Infiniti now wants to charge me $35 + tax for an oil change. Where do yall get oil changes from? I was thinking about trying Wal-Mart. any suggestions?

i really do not know, Jiffy Lube i suppose. Early Bird specials are pretty cheap and fast. From past experience, the service has been pretty good and I think they still fatten you up with free Krispy Kreme donuts in the morning. Good luck!

I just got my last on at SWI. I'm planning to do it myself. All you need is ramps and the oil and filter. The only reason I would do it at SWI is for the free car wash, but I wash my car myself.

If you plan to take it somewhere, it's all the same. I hate Jiffy Lube because they are slackarses. If you don't mind the washing at Mr. Carwash, you can normally get a $5 coupon either online or in the mail. Oil change and wash for 27+.

Do it yourself...one of the easiest things to do and you'll feel a great sense of accomplishment afterwards.

Personally, I would get it done at a dealership (doesn't have to be the one you purchased it from) and nowhere else. Second choice is to do it yourself, however, since 1- I am not too excited about working under my car and 2- oil is too important for the engine and I am not willing to deal with the consequences of a mistake I may make, I go back to my first choice. I do not own a G yet. My oil has never been changed at anywhere but a dealership. Currently, I go to the Round Rock Nissan dealership where oil change is total of $25 incl. tax. For a V6 it may/will probably be more. They have a 30 minute oil change guarantee, otherwise the next oil change is free. I like that.

The most important rule I have for oil changes is this: Whereever you decide to get your oil changed, always use the same place. Why? Especially at places which rely on high volume (e.g. Kwik Car, Walmart, etc.), the technicians have no ownership of the vehicle. They want to get you out of there as soon as possible. These places tend to have a lot of turnover too. Eventually, one day, your oil pan plug will get stripped because some careless tech used a power wrench to screw it in or torqued it too much manually. The thickness of the oil pan and the threads is very little and it doesn't take much force to strip it. I guarantee you that an oil pan and service will cost you a minimum of $400 when it happens. And when it does happen, especially if you have been going to different shops, they will blame it on the tech at the "other" shop. They will not take responsibility for it unless you can prove the previous oil change was done at the same place. Better keep your receipts.

This happened to my wife's '98 Camry XLE a few years ago when it was around 100,000 miles. When it did, they blamed it on the other shop because she couldn't even remember the last place she had had the oil change done. That's when I said "...that's it, we're going to the same place from now on." She began taking it to the Round Rock Toyota dealership and has never gone anywhere else for service since then. Last month I came across a service bill for an oil change in December '04 (when her car was at 190,000 miles). I noticed they had charged her $487 (pan plus install.) for a new oil pan with the following comment "plug stripped, needs new oil pan". So, I went to the service advisor immediately. She (Sally, great lady and very trustworthy by the way) was very apologetic and said had she remembered the previous oil pan, she would've not charged my wife for it. 100,000 miles is too soon to need a new oil pan and the dealership had to take full responsibility for it (my car has 225,000 miles on it and I still have the original oil pan). They gave her a 100% credit for the previous charge.

Oil is too important for the engine. If you are like me and usually don't have the time to change your oil (it's pretty hot outside), are too lazy to crawl under your car (did I mention it's pretty hot outside?), don't want to deal with the mess (did I mention I was lazy?), and are afraid to screw it up, take it to a reputable dealership and stick with the same place. If (or when) your oil pan plug is stripped, they won't be able to blame anyone else and you'll save yourself a few hundred dollars.

P.S. The Round Rock Nissan dealership will change oil on any car, especially on Infinitis. It is not unusual to see non-Nissan brands in their driveway.

Hope that helps.

I usually take it to the dealership mainly because of a lack of time to sit around waiting. Austin Infiniti has no problem setting you up with a loaner if you schedule in advance. I usually bring my own Mobil 1 and filter to boot.

So I end up picking it up at noon... and have some time to play with/moderately beat the hell out of a "manumatic" tranny in whatever they give me as a loaner. Gives me a chance to see how the non 6MT crowd lives.

The two years scheduled maintenance from SouthWest Infiniti, is that truly free or is it like WestHouston infiniti where 2 free years actually means paying 600$??

I will never go back to SW Infiniti..... (another story)
I usually buy a 5 gallon container of Mobil 1 from Wallyworld (Wal*mart) for $20 and take it to West Houston Infiniti. They give me a loner and charge me around $30 for the change. I always seem to have something else for them to do so getting a loner is never a problem. I need to have my coolant flushed for my 60K service. I hate changing the oil myself because then I have to get rid of the old oil. Pain in the ****! I personally know the mechanic at West Houston Infiniti, so they always treat me right. If something needs attention on my sedan, I am told about it and get it fixed before problems arise.

Mine is overdue for an oil change, so I went to Infiniti and bought a new oil filter and crush gaskest for the oil drain plug. Man...is that oil filter small! I am going to change the oil myself this weekend. What a PITA. I have removed the engine shield before and am not looking forward to doing it again. Since I have no warranty left, I decided it is time to "Man Up" and do it myself.
