Group install of Iso Thermal gasket
I did this install last weekend, was bymyself and was able to get the hoses off before taking the upper plenum off completly, so I had all the hoses off before going on to the lower plenum, also I didn't disconnect the throttle, I just set that aside, still connected.
timewise it took me about 2 hours just going slow and making sure everythijng was right, I did noticed that the directions talked about the oil intake rubber gasket sometimes gets caught inbetween the spacer and it sure did, so just something for everone going to do this to watch out for,
other than only having a foot LBS torque wrench which as mentioned above in an earlier post, needed to be set at the lowest setting which was 10lbs (foot)
for me at first I was thinkiing it was 30-60-110 foot lbs which I started to do when good thing I am a little **** because I thought I was tightening it too much (I had screwed up a bolt on a 300zx Plenum) so I re-read the directions and saw my mistake INCH lbs not Foot, WOW dodged that bullet.
it ended up being close to 15lbs on the bottom plenum.
Well it all turned out ok and after reattaching the battery cable it started up fine.
after one day on driving this thing really kicked in, I finally got back some of the HP I lost when I put on the 19" rims.
Thanks to Tony at MotorDyne and this awsome Mod

Hey Cato, glad you got it done, sorry I missed out, but I did go ahead and do mine as well - along with coupe mid-pipe
- dude! you gotta get one!!!. I managed to do the iso-thermal install by myself, and it wasn't too bad, just take your time and be patient. I disconnected only the lower hose from the throttle body (coolant?) and was able to leave the other hoses attached. Then I rested the upper plenum on the side at an angle, enough for me to get the lower plenum out. I also was suprised at the lack of detail in the lower plenum instructions, so your comments and pictures will help others a lot I'm sure.
Wow, your shots of the lower intake is a bit concerning - is it possible you might be running on 5 cylinders?
Also the pics of maxpowers intakes; it looks like every other intake is clean, or is that just shadow effect? We should line-up and do a couple of runs for a "speedo test" to check your performance. (eyeball dyno).
Folks - be careful!!!!
The torque settings in the Motordyne instructions are inch/pounds, not foot/pounds - I suspect most people have ft/pound torque wrenches. So just divide by 12 to get ft/lbs. Be careful, the torque on the plenum bolts is not much and you don't want to strip them.
The effect of cooler air is hugely significant!
I still think my idea of splitting off a line from the air conditioner and use it to chill the throttle body/intake might be interesting
- offset the loss of power running the a/c vs chilled effect???

That's exactly what it was Andy..the angle/shadow caused by the lighting and angle of the 1-3-5 intake vs. the 2-4-6 intake. as you walked from one side of the car to the other the 'clean' and 'dirty' intakes changed position

if you look at the pics of the upper plenum, you can see the intake to the #2 is filthy, just like the rest of them. But.....the intake manifold for #2 is completely clean???? WTF is going on here? I will find out for sure when the plugs get changed. If the #2 plug looks never used, we have a problem. But then again, when I race Andy later this week and beat him, we will know that I'm firing on all 6!

Andycon and I met for lunch today, Then we went on a drive and raced eachother from around a 40 mph start. I am definitly running on all six cylinders! Hehe. Andycon has the HKS muffler like I do, but he has the coupe mid-pipe also.... I want it very badly now that I have heard it in person
OMG I must have! Any Houston coupe owners upgrading your exhaust?

performed the install today for the iso thermal gasket and the throttle body coolant control valve..........took about 2 hours total (i also cleaned the engine and stopped for lunch in between the work
).......no problems with the removal of the hoses by myself.....cleaned everything and put it back together as instructed.....good kit from MotorDyne
as far as the oil tube spill gasket.......just remove it during the dissassembly (it pulls right off) and there is no way to get it caught when you reinstall the spacer and plenum..........once everything is back together, then install the gasket back where it belongs
after a spirited test drive the plenum is cool to the touch....easy/inexpensive mod that i expect will keep the engine from fading on hot days and long spirited runs
