Fl just is not tolerating street racing anymore... I think it is perfectly fair to say that if you are going to be drag racing on the roadways that you shouldn't be driving at all...

You already have a conviction? Shoulda got a better lawyer...

Re: Street Racing Bill in Florida!!

i felt i was driving safe on the turnpike last friday morning at 6am when it was completely light out and there wasn't a care for 6 miles( i actually kept track) going north. Then a State Trooper came from the opposite direction and clocked me going 107mph. He was pretty accurate I'd say. I said F%&# and pulled right over. He gave me a ticket for going 100 in a 70. He wrote it, gave me ticket, asked me to keep it easy and was on his way.

In relation to the above statements, I think if you are by yourself and cruising not being a danger to anyone else, it should be ok, i think or at least a warning.

Anyone know a good inexpensive lawyer?!?!?!?!?!

I'm done spending money on my car for a month!!!!!
Anyone selling a boat or waverunner???? I would be interested...if your in Florida.

Re: Street Racing Bill in Florida!!

Hmmm...6am and 107mph? I would have give you the ticket too....

once you break into triple digits, you ARE getting a ticket.

I'd say it's safe to cruise at 90mph in a 70mph if there is no traffic....

What would the purpose of a warning be if it was ok to cruise and not being a danger? "here is your warning for doing what is considered OK?" Kinda contradictory...

Re: Street Racing Bill in Florida!!

Here is the problem with this law...

It is simply way to subjective toward the police-person's interpretation.

My conviction came 15 years ago when I had just turned 17 years old. Went to court and such, got my license back. I deserved it and the $700+ ticket (remember back when FL speeding tickets were like $100+ and then $4 and change each mile over??).

This law could arrest anyone based on a cops persective or desire. Not that you would do this, but I am sure you have met cops who have made mistakes and wrote the ticket anyway.

Before my G, I had a 500+ HP Mustang GT, supercharged, racing pipes, no cats, etc. I admit that it was very fast, and very loud.

On Oct 10, 2001, while leaving a TOOL concert here in Orlando, I was pulled over by the police who were guarding the traffic. Here is the initial part of the conversation...

"I was not speeding, officer"

He replys "Yes you were. I HEARD you from way over there".

He heard me speed? is that possible? Well, reckless driving, ticket was $180+ and 3 points.

In 2000, in St. Mary's, GA (just over the border from Jacksonville) the same thing happen but this time I had been leaving Toy Story 2 with my wife, sister-in-law and my 3 yo nephew in the car. This ticket was " Too FAST for conditions". $150 and 4 points. This was a clear day, 82 degrees out, sunny and the cop admitted I had never exceeded the speed limit.

Now, I do admit the tickets I have deserved but these were two cases where the cops were WRONG. So, this bill scares me. To put the power of blame into hands of the same cops that "heard" me speeding. It just isn't right.

Re: Street Racing Bill in Florida!!

Being issued a citation or even arrested does not mean you are guilty of such a crime....If you PAY it, you are admitting guilt, which ultimately leads into a conviction.

Like I said..get a better attorney...
