Modding in Tampa
I am surprised and heartened to see so many Tampa area G owners populating the forum. I am expecting delivery of my 04 DG sedan within the week and am anxious to squeeze a few extra horses out of it early. Can you recomend any shops/dealers who are experienced and freindly to this?

Re: Modding in Tampa
I will be picking up a DG Sedan AT tommorow (8/27) from infiniti of tampa. I have had dealing with Lokey VW in the past and every experience with them has left a bad taste in my mouth. Although it is a separate delaership and I think *not* run by the same Lokey brother, I still did not approach them before buying the car. I would like to hear the opinions of others who have dealt with Lokey and other dealerships, as Lokey is nearest to my house and I am interested in purchasing some effective aftermarket parts.
Re: Modding in Tampa
i have heard bad stories about lokey in the past, when i first came down here. that was last year though. now i have heard nothin but good things, this mainly being due to the change in ownership or management. like a said esemes and gspot35 both have had their vorecths installed then and have had good experiances with them. hopefully you will be able to make it to our meet out there on the 11 and see.
also delegance (think thats the right spelling, ill find out) in largo does excellent work. they just put a new engine in my friends z after his old one blew. they have also worked on a few z's and g's. they have also installed a procharger on a g, that i know of.

Re: Modding in Tampa
cpwebb,
My name is John and I am the Service Director at Lokey Infiniti. I have been on these forums talking with everyone about performance and trying to help you all start up a car club of some sort.
I just wanted to reply to you and let you know that you are correct. Lokey Infiniti and Mercedes are owned by a different member of the Lokey family, and we are not affiliated with the Lokey VW, Nissan, Kia, Saturn, etc. dealers.
As I am sure you are aware, not everyone will be happy with a given dealer. There are too many people with too many different individual situations for everyone to be satisfied at ANY dealer. I can tell you, however, that over the course of the last year there have been MANY changes at my dealer.
I can also proudly say that Lokey Infiniti is currently ranked in the TOP 10 for service customer satisfaction for the Infiniti East Region, which covers the entire east coast of the United States from Florida up to New York, etc. In the interest of being respectful to my competitors, I will refrain from saying Tampa's ranking. Anyone who visits our dealership can take a look at the rankings for themselves, as the report is posted in the sales showroom.
Hopefully, you can make it out to our Saturday service clinic to say hello, get some good food, and meet up with all of the other G owners that will be meeting out here. See the "Westcoast Driver's Club" thread for more details...

I dealt with John Knierman as well. My experience has been postivie. I let him know about the group meeting on September 11. I plan on stopping by Lokey before then as well. I live in South Tampa (a block south of West Shore mall) and work at Raymond James.

Re: Modding in Tampa
Based on John's (LokeyInfiniti's) earnest reply to my post as well as his participation in the West Coast Drivers Club, I decided it was worth while to explore a relationship with him and his dealership. I spoke with John several times during the week to discuss potential mods I had in mind and to get his input and opinions. In these conversations, I found him to be entirely forthright in his approach, freely giving his opinions where he had them and just as freely acknowledging when he was unfamiliar with a product or procedure.
I decided to give the dealership a whirl and ordered a Stillen sedan exhaust, cold air intake, grounding wires and splash guards. Although these were all Stillen products (aside from the OEM splash guards) and John admitted Stillen was the aftermarket supplier he was most familiar, he also indicated that he was open to sourcing and or installing parts from other manufacturers. As I wanted to have the parts installed by this weekend, I opted for expedited shipping even with John’s extra phone call to inform me of the exact amount and to confirm that I really wanted to spend the extra money.
At the dealership, my interaction with John and the service writer Greg was very positive and I felt like a VIP customer. Upon delivery, John and the service tech came out to the car to listen and look at the quality of installation. John was very concerned with the fit and finish of all the parts and took special pains to admit to and show an spot on the muffler which was scratched on delivery (mind you, this was on the top of the muffler and impossible to see without the car on a lift or me on my hands and knees). When I arrived home, John made one more call to check on my approval of the parts and to show his appreciation of my business.
Sorry this is so long. Final opinion: Very, very positive. Could I have spent less, yes. Do I enjoy good service, yes. Do I think good service is free, no. Thanks for all your help John! I will see you again on the 11th.

Re: Modding in Tampa
I took the day off today. I washed my car and ran several errands. I called John this morning, talked to him for about 15 minutes and set up a meeting for this afternoon at 1:30 PM. I talked with him for about 20 minutes.
I told him about the club, cars and people. I had been there before but I took a look around the facilities. I think I heard cpwebb's G35 running. Sounded good.
My experience with John at Lokey was very prositive. He and the dealership are looking to support us in a big way. I look forward to building a positive relatiopnship for all involved.
