south tampa rain

just wanted to vent. when it rained on weds night i was on my way to an apppointment, by columbus and armenia. anyway, i was waiting to turn south on armenia when a truck plows thru a huge puddle and basically covers my car. after he passed, i turned onto armenia not knowing how deep the water was and the car just stalled. i have an injen cai by the way. when i got out of the car, the water level was still lower than the bottom of the front lip so i wasn't too concerned. i had a friend help me push it to higher ground at a strip mall and l left it overnight. came back thrusday morning and the car wouldn't start, no cranking noise, nothing. i had the car put on a flatbed and took it to infiniti of tampa and as i look behind me, there are 3 other flatbeds with coupes on them. needless to say, i have a bent rods and now need a new engine. two things here: knowing that it rains so much here, wouldn't florida have a little more sense in creating a better drainage system? and two: could the CAI suck up that much water to destroy the engine after driving over a puddle where the cai is not immersed in the water? sorry such a long post but i had to vent!

Re: south tampa rain

Sorry to hear about that.. God the sucks....

South Tampa is horrible with drainage mainly because it's only @8ft above sea level. They always flood down there.....

We talked to a guy at Infiniti of Tampa and they had 4 G's a few weeks ago with exactly the same problem...

Re: south tampa rain

Did your dealership say they were going to cover your engine considering you have the CAI? They could also claim no responsibility considering the damage came from an outside source.

Re: south tampa rain

Insurance is supposed to cover it but we'll see what they say when they see the CAI.

Re: south tampa rain

gwiz69, By insurance do you mean the manufacturers warranty or do you mean a company like All State or Geico?

Re: south tampa rain

Insurance wont be concerned with the CAI....an "act of god" caused the damage no matter if it was to a modded car or not

Were all the Gs that had this happen with a CAI or did any have stock intake??? I went with popcharger for that very reason but if its happening to stock intakes too then Infiniti might have some issues on their hand, as in a class action.

Re: south tampa rain

one person who brought her car in actually was able to start the car and she drove thru the water and she was told that she needed a new engine with only 600 miles on it. i really don't know if the other cars were modded or stock. i'm supposed to find out on monday whether or not state farm will cover the cost of the new engine.

Re: south tampa rain

I work for the City of Tampa, Fleet Maintenance Division. We lost 4 Ford Crown Vic police cars to water induction into the engine. These all have factory air intake systems.

The bottom line is, DON'T go through deep puddles. PERIOD! Even a truck or SUV can be damaged.
