CFL micro-filter group install...

OK, after much deliberation for another Lokey meet, it looks like it would just be better to do part of the 15,000 mile service a little more locally.

Here are the details...

Date: Saturday, November 20th
Time: 12:00-ish "sharp"
Location: Neffster's "Busted Nuckle Garage"
Food: Grilled Hot Dogs and Hamburgers (what ever was left over after the poker game)
Beverages: Bring your own

Sean has decided to order 4 micro-filters. So far, Wes, Ian myself and Sean have all agreed to participate in the install. If anyone else wants to join in, let Sean know ASAP. Otherwise you'll have to buy your own filter through Orlando Infiniti (or Classic Nissan) and bring it with you on Saturday. I have the facilities to do an oil change, but would want a volunteer to step up and drop off the unused oil at the local Auto parts store (as I don't want old motor oil in the trunk of my G). IF anyone wants to do an oil change they MUST bring their own oil/filter/lock washer etc... In case you are wondering, I have a jack and 2 jackstands, along with all of the necessary tool to perform the oil change.

If Sean thinks it would be prudent, he can bring his poker chips along and afterward we can have a little fun on the patio if everyone is good with that.

Also, Tampa people and Jax people are welcome to join us, but if we get too many micro-filter and oil changes lined up, the poker game might get pushed back kind of late.

Re: CFL micro-filter group install...

I already changed my in cabin filter, my G has 19.2k miles on it but I do need to re-oil my air filter of my stillen cold air box (same as your pop charger filter). I don’t have any experience re-oiling the filter so if I bring the kit would we be able to work on it?

Re: CFL micro-filter group install...

Sean,

When you order the micro-filters, please ask for individual receipts. I want to have an original receipt for my records (for warranty purposes). I don't want a copy of a receipt, I'd rather have an original receipt with the name of the Infiniti/Nissan dealership printed on it with a date and all of the other pertinent info.

Thanks!

Also, is Loafy going to join us?

The (5) micro filters are ordered. The parts guy said they will be here in time for Saturday.

Re: CFL micro-filter group install...

Stewart,

When you re-oil your air filter, it needs to be out of your car over night. The best thing you can do is to go to Advanced Auto Parts and buy the K&N re-oiling kit. It comes with a can of aerosol cleaner and a spray bottle of oil. It also has all of the instructions enclosed and costs about $10.

Doing it at my house probably wouldn't work too well since you need to leave the filter out over night to air dry. Also, I like to leave the filter off for about 1 day after re-oiling it. Just want to make sure that any excess oil drains thoroughly. Are you sure you need to re-oil it?

Yeah, its not hard but if you really would like help to make sure u dont over oil then u could put back in your stock airbox for a day. You might need to do that anyway if you cant be without your car for 12-24hrs.

On a side note, I ordered the Zaino kit today for me and Ian...

Re: CFL micro-filter group install...

Yeah I didn’t know it’s a 24-hour process. Since that’s the case ill have to wait till I go back home after fall session ends since all my tools are down there (socket wrench etc..) I have about 13k miles on my filter so I figured it might be due for a cleaning soon.

Re: CFL micro-filter group install...

well the paper filters have a life of 15k miles...the oil filters should last AT LEAST 2-3times longer. Supposidely they work better with some dirt attached but if its black then its time. I guess just use your own discretion or we can look at it Sat and give our opinions.

Re: CFL micro-filter group install...

I found the G's in cabin filter leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to odor filtering. I changed my filter a few months ago and added an active charcoal layer to the top of the filter, which was a noticeable improvement to the OEM filter.

I got small charcoal filter panels from HD for a couple of bucks. I just cut them to fit.

Re: CFL micro-filter group install...

Jeff,
Did you put the carbon in as a pre-filter or a post-filter?
If it's used as a pre-filter, won't the carbon deposits clog the paper filter?
If it's used as a post-filter, how did you get the carbon to "stick" to the stock filter?
