What are some nice areas to live around Atlanta, GA?
I have an opportunity move to ATL this summer. The move would be perfect I would be only 4 hours from my family and 5 hours from my fiances family instead of the 10-11 we are now. I have an 8 year old step son and a baby on the way so I am looking for a nice area that I can start my family. Any suggestions? Thanks everyone

North of the city is usually best, anywhere in Marietta County.
I lived in Duluth.
Traffic is a Bi__h!

I live in Dunwoody and love it since its residential but everything you could ever want is a short drive away - mall, restaurants, etc. Cobb county has the lowest taxes, but there is no MARTA so you will need to drive to a marta to goto the airport or sporting events.

I was in Smyrna for a short while but did not like it there. I loved living in Duluth. Driving to the city was a pain but the cost of living and weather makes it a great place.

I was in Duluth for training a few months back. Freeway traffic isn't that bad during rush hour. Houston is way worse. I did run into a couple of smaller streets where traffic was backed up like i've never seen before, but other than that it wasn't too bad. What area is Stone Mountain considered to be in? That was a nice area.

Once a hot bed for the KKK, those days are long gone.

If you head south to Henry county and McDonough you'll end up with a lot more home for the money. The home you pay $325,000 for in Henry will be $450,000 in Alpharetta (north Fulton county) or in Cobb county. Trust me, I've lived in Atlanta for almost 49 years.
Anywhere out towards the E / NE in Henry is offering excellent country living on large lots with plenty of back roads to get you out of the worst part of I-75 traffic (the snafu between McDonough, Eagles Landing & I-675) and into Atlanta. (If your work is in Atlanta) Besides, backroads are SO much more fun in the G35!!!
Want golf club living? Plenty to be found all around town, just waaaay cheaper when you head south. (Not just 75 south, but 85 south as well) Down 85 towards Fayette county is very nice. However I'd drive a bit farther for better (IE bigger) home values for the money.
Guess it just depends on what you are looking for. I've got family all around Atlanta, as well as smack in mid-town. They all love where they are, for any number of reasons... go figure.
Come on down... Atlanta is a great place to live, no matter where you end up. (Just be prepared for TRAFFIC on the interstates!)
