Hey guys, i'm moving to cali soon and need to register my car.
Is it a problem if I register the car in Tx and have tx plates?
Or do I have to have Ca registration if I live there.

thanks for the link. my car is goin to be shipped on the 15th and be there on the 18th. pretty quick. too bad i won't be there to inspect it for damage. i have to make sure my cousins do it correctly. unless someone here wants to.

 

What area part of cali are you moving to?

 

my car is being shipped to rosemead. i'll be there temporarily. i'll be looking for a place after i get there on the 20th. i'll be working in monrovia but my gf will be goin to UCLA. so i need a place inbetween. i have another thread about where to live.

When you say inspection, do you mean smog?

There are a TON of smog places all over the place. I just dunno about the tint part. I'm sure they won't care... smog stations only care about the engine and emissions components. I took my prelude to this one place and he saw my AEM CAI and GReddy Evo exhaust and he mentioned to me that cops could give me beef even though both are CARB legal. He still passed me.

yeah i mean smog. here in tx we have a registration and inspection sticker.
for inspection here, they road test, check the tint %, check wipers, headlights, brake lights, etc...
In CA do you only have to smog test or is there another inspection that goes along with it like tint and such also? i thought tint on the fronts are illegal in CA. how do you guys get away with it. (i've heard rolling down the windows during inspection)

no, i'm talkin about annual inspection. i need to register. i was just wondering what is involved in CA.

my uncle is taking shipment of my car so i should be ok. hopefully they take care of it while shipping.

 

Well, i dunno about when out-of-state cars are brought in... but i've never done any inspection but smog. Only the front driver/passenger and front windshield is where tint is illegal. It's a fix-it ticket. You just have the tint taken off and get the ticket signed off at a police/sherrif station. Some tint shops here even sell you a "warranty". You pay for the tint and pay extra ($50 or so) so if you ever get a ticket, you bring it back to them to remove, get the ticket signed off, and you can go back to the shop to have them re-tint for free.

I can give you the address of the smog place i went to. They don't really give hookups, but they're nice guys and it's a fairly decent shop. I've been to some pretty ghetto looking shops before too. If you want it, i'll have to grab the address when i get home.

 

Cali smog check is every other year. Like (Day) said, I'm not sure of the inspection that they do for a car coming in from another state but if you just have the tint removed if requested upon inspection, the cost for the 2 front windows isn't usually that much (removed and reapplied). Besides, if you own a G the cost of the tint shouldn't be problem . And after that, the cops usually don't give a crap about the tint unless you're acting like an a$$ or the cop is an a$$. I've gotten pulled over a couple of times (for speeding) and did not have any issue with the tint on my fron windows, and they are pretty dark. Good luck and welcome to Cali!
