WTF, did you guys see this? http://www.knbc.com/traffic/14539909/detail.html I saw this on the news this morning and they were even impounding minivans. i guess this means you can't even park in a parking lot anywhere in lynwood? don't get me wrong, i feel for the families that were involved in some of the earlier accidents, but i think this is a little over board.


The crackdown, part of the sheriff's department new zero tolerance for street racers and spectators, started at 8 p.m. and lasted for hours. It took place at the corner of Long Beach Boulevard and Imperial Highway and involved more than 80 deputies and 20 Highway Patrol officers.

The vehicles were impounded for a variety of violations.

The zero tolerance policy on street racing in Lynwood and surrounding industrial areas resulted from a series of fatal traffic accidents.

LA County Sheriff Lee Baca said he has beefed up deputy patrols in those areas, and they've been instructed to cite or arrest anyone involved in street racing, including spectators.

Surveillance video is also being set up in the area, and it will be used to identify and impound vehicles involved in street racing

This is a good thing, street racing is illegal, dangerous and stupid for those
of us that used to participate. In todays world with so many people and their
inability to handle what they drive it is dangerous. Plus with todays laws you
could spend the rest of your life behind bars should someone get killed while
participating in street racing not worth it!

yeah, but the article I read about the crushing cars said it was only happening to cars that had stolen parts on them.

don't get me wrong - street racing is dumb, dangerous and puts inocent ppl (even kids) at risk. i'm glad they are cracking down after the other stuff that happened.

however, they are impounding spectators (on the news they were literally impounding minivans). impounding "spectators" this is a little too much. that basically means you can't even park your car in a parking lot adjacent to some street were some dumb as$ decides to run.

LOL! Riverside was involved in this thing? It won't be long til my kids car will impounded by Riverside PD. Well maybe that will teach him not to drag race anymore.

They started doing that up here in SJ a few years back, but instead they were impounding only those who were caught racing, and just citing spectators. But it was enough to pretty much kill the street racing scene up here, since it was mostly comprised up of spectators. Maybe I shouldn't be, but I am a bit surprised to hear that the racing scene is still big down in SoCal.

Hate to Say it but theres still a lot of Idiots in SO CAL. My buddy told me of a crash in his neighborhood there's a park on one side of the street, apartments on the other side. Saturday afternoon kids crossing everywhere. Some D*ck in a Dodge Magnum Hemi with 22's drove 100+ down that street sees 3 kids pop out in front of him, He SLAMS on his brakes starts drifting sideways hits a parked Semi truck, Just the cab no trailer, spins in the air lands on a car coming out the park The Lady passanger gets Decapitated, The Driver a Guy Is CRITICAL, Probally died at the Hospital and the Idiot in the Magnum? After they cut him out his car........Just a Few scratches....Guess it helps to be Drunk when you crash......Stupid People

I'm all for the efforts to eradicate street racing.

I am not to keen on the profiling that's been on the rise around here. It's not just me, lots of folks I talk to get rolled for "looking" like they're "looking" for a race. Man, I just wanted a boba!

If they truly wanted to stop street racing they'd have more programs like Littlejohn's High School drag racing nights up at LACR. Parents, kids, grandparents...everybody participated.

Maybe they should stop renting FF/2F2F...or perhaps the lawmakers/enforcers should remember back about 15-30 years and what their experience was. And, what made them tick? What would get them off the streets??

Now if we can just figure out how closing tracks fits into all this, we'll be good to go?
