i hate the job that i'm currently at and looking for another job and was thinking about being a bartender. i just turned 21 this past weekend. what would i need to do to become a bartender and how much i would expect to earn hourly (excluding tips)
i need a change of atmosphere. i'm currently working at a cell phone shop here in the 626/323 area.
i'm attending cal state LA so i'm not really looking for full time. maybe like 30-35 hours a week.
if you guys have any ideas that would be great.

i'm no bartender, but I believe you have to go to bartenders school 1st. I guess they do pretty well, mostly cuz of tips. Pay will depend on where U go. Some places give minimum wage or approximately that, becuase they know U will get a lot of tips.
haha, even hooter girls only get minimum wage as bartenders.

they have bartending courses where it is super easy getting certified as a bartender. I got certified in about 2 weeks.

bartender school is pretty easy from what my other homies told me but.... most bartenders are female at clubs etc....if you become a bartender thatll be chill and youll get massive tips if you work fridays n sat.... but yea just saying that most bartenders that are wanted are females

I have bartended for almost 4 years now, most places look down upon bartender school, they want you to work up to it. I barbacked for almost a year prior, and help with the bartending when it was slow or slammed. You get paid server pay or min wage depending where u work plus tips. Hoe much you make is totally depening on where u work and how they divide it up. If you have your own bar and all you have to do is tip out the barback that is the best. I started out when I was barbacking making around 350 a weekend then it only goes up. I think the most I made in a weekend bartending was close to 1500. It is a hell of an industry when you get a good spot but u have to earn it and it takes a toll on you.
