If she attends any school, she can get an educational discount from apple. I saved myself $100 bucks this year for a macbook just because I was a student. (They only allow 1 laptop discount per year per student though).

Check the apple website shane. There are tons of discounts you can get from apple, but I think they will only allow you to apply one type of discount per purchase. I believe the student discount is now only 5% (at least that's how it was in December). The government discount is slightly better, and a few other discounts are "slightly" better as well.

I think you get a free ipod touch with the purchase of any laptop right now too.

Student discount is like $100 off or something like that.

same here, discounts through work.

macbook pro 13 in 2.26GHz = 1127 vs 1199

macbook pro 15 in 2.66GHz = 1839 vs 1999

macbook pro 17 in 2.8 GHz = 2299 vs 2499

our CEO is on the board of directors at Apple.

+1. Use the educational discounts to your benefits! I've been using it for years now and it has saved me on various items from the store.

I heard that if you buy a laptop from bestbuy you can get the iPod for free instant rebate as to mail in rebate. But I don't know if you will be able to receive the student discount, but you have to ask for the free iPod they will not give it to you unless you ask for it.

Or you can look up authorize seller of apple like macmall.com or something sometimes they have good packages for a decent price

+1 for buying it @ school.
Especially if you or your GF goes to CSU or UC, they get better discounts then private colleges (quite simply put, they have a larger customer base @ CSU and UC's vs a private school)
you do get freebies (ipods,etc..) and good discounts.. although IMHO .. PC's are better =P
