^ ha! unfortunately i only do corporate law so any labor or employment issues are over my head lol

what i'm going to do is see if she's got a copy of any contracts she may have signed and take a look at the language. if i can gather enough info, i'll be writing a little letter to her principal and squash this power trippin bullsh1t.

Have you checked on the web at all? I would think with a District that large, they might have a bunch of that on their website in PDF form.

I asked the wife she told me that in LAUSD if you are trying to transfer schools your current principal must release you, you cannot simply leave from one school to the other without their approval. If she was moving outside the district there wouldn't be an issue. Talking to her union rep was what my wife recommended, she says they will know her rights in this situation.

Oh! You know, the other thing I was going to say that I know about school politics: the principal may not even be messing with your sister. She may very well be trying to stick it to that other principal for something your sister has nothing to do with.

i think the current principal is just a cold hearted, power trippin biatch. it's the summer, she wants her vacation, doesn't want to interview new teachers, etc., etc.

I teach in SoCal and have heard of principals trying to hold on to teachers

I believe the main issue is finding a teacher that is highly qualified.
For example, if the new replacement teacher needs to be sent to trainings, workshops, and new teacher orientations he/she might miss a month or more of the school year.
Standardized test scores tend to drop when different teachers teach a class and keeping standardized scores up is the main priority for any principal.
I know I had a good time whenever a substitute was teaching

One more thing, principals work on an extended calendar. She is working when everyone else is on summer break (I don't even think summer school is being offered in LAUSD this summer). She should be happy she has the opportunity to hire a new teacher and mold her into what she needs for her school site.

Good luck!

yeah, that all makes sense. altho i'm biased, i know my sister is a great teacher; hence that's why she was essentially recruited to some exclusive charter school in a wealthy part of LA. but the former school she teached at was also in Bel Air and i believe the principal already let go of some teachers recently that would kill to come back. so, it wouldn't be much sweat off her back to bring them back.
