Any Teachers in Socal/LAUSD?? Question...
my sister is trying to quit her current job/school bc she got a job at another school w/in the same district (LAUSD).
HOWEVER, the current principal will not sign her release papers; she claims that she cannot find a replacement teacher. yeah right. in this market? there are hundreds of teachers dying for a job. essentially, she is just being a total b1tch.
does anyone know what my sister's rights may be? is there anyway to veto the principal's power to keep a teacher and force them to stay?
i have yet to see the contract my sister may have signed before employment 2 yrs. ago.
my sister will be speaking to her union but i wanted to see if anyone had any information off hand.
thanks!

I don't have any first-hand knowledge of this (taught years ago in a different district), but the Union will totally back her in getting what she wants. They are all too happy to go butt heds with the District and the Administrators over anything. The other thing is, your sister should then somewhat be protected (or have a suit if she is later picked on) because there is special verbage about retribution for union activity. I am not sure if this part qualifies.
It is just a shame when it is already a weird situation for her if she stays as she has shown her cards that she wants out. And it is messed up if she is just being blocked form a job.
Man! It is just too bad she doesn't have a lawyer in the family or anything. :P
