g35 making wierd grinding/ chattering

so i've noticed that my car (05 6mt g35 coupe) has been making wierd grinding/ chattering noises when its under 2k rpm and a mild variation of that when its in neutral, almost sounds like a diesel truck but very mild, i had the clutch/ flywheel replaced about 15k miles ago, i feel it may be the transmition but im not sure the gears catch fine and the car drives fine. any ideas?

did you replace with an oem or aftermarket flywheel? The noise is normal. If it's the latter, it is just likely to be more noticeable.

It's clutch chatter when you're in neutral, not stepping on the clutch. That's fairly normal for most aftermarket clutches, a definite if you installed a lightweight flywheel with the clutch. If you have chatter on a stock clutch, it's the bearing.

(I think) the sound you get when accelerating under 2k is the motor.

Input shaft bearing, very common. you can confirm by stepping in on clutch, if it goes away, then I'm right. That's a tear down

The noise you hear right now is just the flywheel... wait until the bearing starts wearing out...

idk hopefully I'm just hearing normal engine noises and I'm paranoid, also Saturday I now noticed sometimes in neutral and between 2.8k and 3.0k rpm I hear a very loud chattering noises, my auto proffessor thinks it might be a loose heat shield on my exhaust rattleing, I hope so, car still drives fine, I rarly even don't have asmooth shift so I'm not to worried about grinding the gears, I never slip the clutch either, other than noises my car runs/looks great thnx for the advice tho

having kind of the same problem...when the car is cold and step on the clutch at neutral something sounds like its grinding (but this only happens once or twice a week on a daily driver)

took it to the mechanic twice who is 10 miles from my house but whenever i get there the noise is gone....this happened twice..totally felt like a dumba** when i told my mechanic theres a grinding noise but nothing was happening -___- lol

Hey awais786. Mine is doing the same as yours. I got a new release bearing from Infiniti and it completely went away for 500 miles and now it's back. Any suggestions. PM me please if anybody does. Thanks

Do you guys have after market exhaust? My G has always made that sound under 2K rpms when accelerating. Once I get over 2K, it goes away. Either that or I just can't hear it any more. I have CAI, high flow plenum, light weight pullies, light weight flywheel, headers, test pipes and a Stillen exhaust.

Later,

Ray
