Re: California Speedway "Rode w/ a ProRace Car Driver"

Buttonwillow is just off the Interstate 5. You go north to the Lerdo Highway, then left (west) about a half mile to the gate to the track, which is on the left. It is clearly marked and there is nothing else out there to get confused by. It is about 120 miles north of downtown Los Angeles. Literally, get on the 5, go 120 miles, two left turns, park in the paddock. You cannot get to the closest McDonald's with directions that spare.

2-3 g's.....more like 1.5 max. Lateral adhesion on a level surface for most performance cars would be around the 1g level. Way less for most street cars. The grip of the tires is a major factor, and they just are not going to be able to hand on to road surface with that much lateral inertia. (Think about it for a moment....a Panoz or IROC car that weighs a bit under 3800 lbs with THREE TIMES that lateral force on the tires. Not gonna happen and still allow you to walk away). The banked turn lets you grab a bunch more of course, but I suspect you were pulling somewhere around 1.2 or so. Still, that is bunch when you are not used to doing it in a car and your brain is telling you that normally with that force you would be flying sideways! Now, a Formula 1 car that weighs 1200 pounds with tires the size of steamer trunks, different world of g force capability.

Here is the link to the Buttonwillow website:
http://www.buttonwillowraceway.com/

Go to the track maps button on the menu at the left side, and click on #14 to see the run. It is not as technically difficult as they often are, and it will be a FAST one. Our buddy Clint put this one together, we have 14 confirmed G drivers coming.

I dare you, adrenaline junkie, I dare you.

Fun is a diversion ride.
Passion is driving at the limit.
I only invite to experience the difference.
Take it or leave it.
There is no right or wrong response. Only what he/she wants.

Not at all. You had a super great experience at Fontana. Just trying to encourage you to keep it going. You will love the driving. But if you do not want to, that is fine.

Re: California Speedway "Rode w/ a ProRace Car Driver"

I had to ask my teenage son what the phrase meant, having assumed it was negative. He suggested also however that your feelings might be hurt. If that is so, I apologize, that was not the intent at all.

We have fourteen nice people, many of whom you already know, going up to Buttonwillow. A more collegial and supportive group of young enthusiasts driving the same type of car (G35) has yet to occur anywhere in the country for a track day to my knowledge. The sponsors are good people, the price is right, the weather should be good. The track configuration will be excellent for newbies and more advanced drivers as well, so it is not outrageously demanding on skill sets, though it will be challenging. And you will have an instructor with you as much as you want, all day if need be. And it is a Saturday so no work missed, as long as you do not have to be at work on Saturday. If you don't want to drive of course you can ride with others. It just is hard to imagine it being better as an introduction. I even have a new helmet that I will lend you all day if you want so you do not have to spend any money for one (peace offering!). Here is the list of folks signed up so far. And if you don't want to do it, no worries. No more pushing, I promise. Be well.
