Odd question about speeding ticket
Odd question about speeding ticket
What's up my SoCal brothas?
I got a speeding ticket about a month ago and I still have not received my "courtesy" notice indicating how much the fine is and if I can go to traffic school. I searched the court website and it said that it hadn't been filed yet.
So, my question is, should I call them to find out what's going on and risk pointing out their mistake and having to pay for the ticket, or should I just let it go and hope that it never gets filed? Has anyone encountered anything like this before? Advice would be greatly appreciated.

I had a friend that got a traffic ticket. He never received any letter/notice and 5-6 months later. He was pulled over for tinted windows.
Cop ran his name and he had a warrant for unpaid ticket or something. He was arrested and stayed in jail for a night. LOL

Well, that answers my question. The last thing I need is to spend a night in jail.
Just call and ask. You wont point out yourself even if the cop didn't file it. They will only tell you that theres nothing and it might have not been filed yet and that u should wait. dam tickets, i just got a ticket 2 weeks ago for no insurace which is $1200
^dayymmm thats a whole body kit right there.. i just got a speeding ticket a few weeks ago and they havent told me how much my ticket was or anything.. and its due by september.. tried goin to court and they just gave me info about my prior ticket even though i gave them the current ticket info(ie; ticket number..) so yea im stuck in limbo as well brotha
I was never sent a notice for a suspended license due to it being sent to my dorm when I was home for the summer in VA a few (see all women are 29...unless they are 18) years ago and then was pulled over because an officer felt I came to "too abrupt a stop" at a traffic light...yea wtf-ever. He ran my ID, saw I was suspended, and took me on in to jail as well. The judge "pointed out" that it is my responsibility as a citizen to know my driving status, so he sentanced me to 30 days...
Yea cops are my fav when they are used as revenue sources by the state

Call em, get yer info or they WILL burn you

That happened to me once and they told me the same thing: that it was my responsibility to find out the status. The court isn't responsible for lost or stolen mail. Of course you are responsible if USPS loses YOUR mail to the court
I wanted to fight the ticket, but since i called too late, i had to pay the fine and eat it on my insurance.

Keep in mind our state is broke and the folks that work for DMV aren't the smartest individuals, So it's up to you to find the answer by going to court and asking them. You know what CYA means, you're smart if you do...

Thanks all for the advice! I spoke with a clerk at the court paying for fix-it tickets (I'm certainly doing my part to help dig Cali out of this financial hole) and she said to just keep checking to see when it's "logged in". She told me that a cop can log in a ticket up to a year later.
So, here's hoping he lost his copy
By the way, post 100!!!! Marketplace, here I come!
