Axle Joints being replaced >:(

Yeah so I dropped the coupe off yesterday at the dealer(hoehn carlsbad) for the 15,000 mile premium service. I told them some other things that are bothering me about the car that they might be able to take care of.
1. brakes squeal in the rear
2.moonroof rubbing when i opt to tilt it up
3. clicking noise during take off in first gear and gear changes
They sent me off with a loaner car 04 sedan silver. Props to all the guys with sedans, these pull pretty hard and are aggressive
So, i get a call and the service guy says that the clicking is due to a defect in the axle joint, and that normally they would only take care of the side that is defective but in this case they are going to do both sides. They need to order the parts and need to have my car overnight. This sucks didnt think that this $40 k car would need this kind of service early. Good thing is its covered on the warranty and I am driving the sedan free of charge. Just wondering if anyone else has heard about this problem with their 6mt's.

That is a known issue for a long time now. There's a TSB that addresses the issue. You should be glad your dealer's actually acknowledging the problem and willing to warranty it. Not all dealers are so inclined to deal with this, which is puzzling to me as they get paid by Nissan/Infiniti to perform all TSB works.

Just curious ... which dealer did you take it to? And do you have a coupe or sedan?

This TSB applies to all infiniti products.

If I have the rear wheels off the car I do the customer a favor by taking out the cotter pin holding the nut on the rear axle, take off the 32mm nut that holds the axle in, spray it with WD40, then reinstall the 32mm tight as F*#$ with the impact, then pop the cotter pin back in. This was the original fix that does permanantly fix this problem, but infiniti doesnt think its good enough.

If the customer does inquire about the clicking noise I go ahead and do the full TSB replacing the entire assembly.

hmmm....i have been getting those clicking noises for a while but i didn't bring it to the dealership as of yet. i'm wondering since i have aftermarket suspension, they'll try to blame it on that....

Dealers will try to blame everything on aftermarket parts.

they can try, but they'll have to prove that the break-down is a direct result of having an aftermarket parts installed on the vehicle....some dealers are more lenient, some more picky...

when i had my Maxima, i brought it to Tustin Nissan for alternator malfunction..i had a decent aftermarket sound system in the car, yet they still fixed my alternator without giving me any hard time...

has anyone here fixed the axle joint problems with an aftermarket suspension? coilovers or not?

IF they deny you because of the aftermarket suspension just do like I said above and tighten the heck out of that 32mm nut. It works just as good as replacing the axle shafts and you can DIY if youve got a powerfull enough impact gun.

I thought it was my Greddy exhaust having some problems or something...but then I came across this thread...

so can you guys describe this clicking noise some more to see if I have the same problem??

btw, im riding on tein s-techs, and have the spc camber arms/toe bolts....

Hmmm.. I hear this clicking noise when I pull out of my drive way and have it on 1/2nd gear also. It seems like uneven streets also cause the clicking noise on my car.

I got the clicking noise as well. I can only hear it when the window is down. It is not very loud, I thought it was maybe from the brake pads moving up and down within the calipers. Specially since only clicks when the car changes speed in 1st/2nd gear. Now that I know what it is I better get it fix. Damn, this is scary since I took it to the Roval a couple of weeks ago not knowing that the clicking is form the axle joints. Sure glad I read this post. Thanks guys!!!

hey all, got my coupe back from the dealer yesterday. everything seems to be cool now, no clicking and i'm not hearing any brake sqeal, so i'm satisfied for the time being. I just got in to work and im pretty amped becuz i had my first Z vs. G experience. I know i shouldnt be racing on the streets, but I think i was prevoked enough to show this Z what we got. I was getting on the 163 North from the 8 East, this part of the freeway can get kinda hairy, its a nice little twisty cuz it juts down going left then takes a mild swerve going right then straight through. So you can imagine me taking this at a good speed. I was going 75-80 into the curve, and just when its straightens out a black Z gets in front of me so i'm slowing down and i'm down into 3rd. At this point you can choose to go straight through and merge into the 163n or stay to the right and get onto Friars rd. So i guess you can say i was pacing at about 60mph, honestly I'm just trying to get to work racing was not planned. So then he starts spraying me down with his windshield wipers for about 5 seconds. I was like damn I either stay behind him and take this crap or get in the next lane and see what the hell his problem is. So i'm mashing through 3rd, passing him up on the left side then i had to manuver out of my lane to pass other cars to stay ahead. Clearly going way past 100 he gets in front of me in the fast lane and i stay right on his a$$. I was having fun but at the same time knowing that this is too stoopid to continue on. He pretty much let off and took an exit off of Genessee, and I end up missing my exit at clairmont mesa blvd, and had to take the 52 w to convoy to get back. I apologize for the venting, this is no excuse for racing, sometimes i get caught up and forget that i dont drive a little honda anymore and cant get sucked into wreckless driving.
