Fun So Cal Event

A few days ago on Car and Driver TV (Spike channel) they showed a really cool event where anyone can participate. It's a driving challenge with three categories: 100-yard acceleration, slalom (AutoX), and 360 circle (skid-pad - G force)... might not sound like much, but it looked very fun. Any car can enter and competition is per car class.

They are holding this event across the country on different dates - it will be in So Cal in a few months (Fontana Nov, Irvine Dec and San Diego Feb next year). Check out the links below... I think it would be a blast to have a bunch of Gs participate. I'm sure lots of you would be interested - I'm going. Let's start a thread when the dates get closer to plan a meet and participation.

In case any of you are thinking about the El Toro Marine Base event, I'm thinking they will use on of the runways. I'd recommend not going to this one. The runway is hell on your tires. The texture of the surface will shred your tires. I ran an autocross there and my tires were toast after the event. I'd probably sign up for one of the CA speedway events if you plan to go.

Those "gripy" runways were meant to slow down planes landing...its like driving on cemented pepples (i.e. sand paper on your tires)...

Yep, that's the one... thanks for the heads-up on the runway. I wonder if it's been re-paved since they haven’t used it for planes for quite some time now. Seems that since Car and Driver is part sponsor they’d be more responsible – who knows…

I'll look into it when the dates get nearer... then we can start an actual event thread. The CA speedway could be the way to go - it's just farther for many in OC... We'll see what the responses are like a little later.
