My $0.02
A lot, and I mean alot, prolly the majority of teams out there have some sort of dues or other requirements.
There are teams who have a pay as you go type of deal, where everyone chips in for whatever the team does. Sometimes it means lighting that cost over $500/show and other times it means nothing. A team like this requires a lot of maturity as there will be times you are asked to chip in for something you either don't need or don't want. Basically you need to do it for the team.
The G35 version of Team Transport is relatively new, so dues help get the team moving along at a faster pace.
A show team offers you several things:
1- Mentors who have been in this scene before
2- Connections you otherwise would not have made on your own
3- More access to models. Trust me on this one. A Team shirt tells them you're not "one of those guys" (even though you are)
4- Primo location at the shows
5- Team support
Being solo does have its advantages in that you can do whatever, whenever you want. I say if you are just starting out, being part of a team is the best thing you can do.

i agree with what vihn said.
The show scene is getting more and more competitive. In my opinion you have to be apart of a group of nice cars to really stand out.
Rolling solo is great but when u roll with the top teams you get better treatment from the show organisers.
Like Ted said,
All the top teams have overheads. We @ Kallusive do it on pay as you go basis, but $100 for the year sounds WAY cheaper then what any of my members has paid 1/2 way into the show year.
Anyone interested in showing should def roll in with Transport, they offer a nice way into the scene and they will give you a good taste of what it really is.
good luck 2 whoever is showing.
