I had an RS with the B18A engine. It has really good pick up for a 4 banger (140 HP, 127 TQ). Geared for the low end and very torquey for a 4 cylinder. They're a blast to drive. I used to canyon carve when I had it - dropped on 5Zigen 5ZF 17s. Minor mods did make a difference - intake, plugs w/ wires, and exhaust.
G2I (generation 2 Integra) is the ****!! I will be saying bye bye to my daily beater soon. It's for sale but the buyer is a bit flakey. All I can say is that it serve me well 230K and still going. I have a new daily driver that I will be driving to work.

dude i was in the same situation, the g was killing me on gas cuz of my long work commute. i ended up getting a 89 honda crx si, it gets 33mpg on 87 octane, costs like under twenty bucks to fill up. its fairly quick, clean, but if you get hit you are a goner. i got it for about 4 k, it was in cherry condition with new paint etc.

it took about two months to source out, you gotta do DAILY autotrader/recycler searches cuz when the good ones come out they sell the same day. i bought mine the day the ad hit the net.

later on when i get a smog hookup im getting the b16 swap done

get a 240sx.

i picked one up a couple months ago.
GREAT beater.
93 240sx base, stock, RWD, 5sp, white with grey/black interior.
torquey and handles pretty damn well...

Something like this goes for about $2,000-$3,000 dollars depending on mileage and condition.

Yeah... a civic or a teg might be a little more reliable.
But after driving the G, my first RWD car, i don't think i'll ever be going back to a FWD car.

I like doing my drifting while moving forward, not with the shifter in reverse.

YEAYUH!!!

Bang for the buck - I'd suggest an Integra again. Try looking at Integras in the '94 to '00 range. You could probably get a used GS-R for that price. One thing to note is that the B18C engines do not have the same TQ curve as the B18A/B engines. However, they do make up in HP. I'm not too much of a fan on the later Integras after '93 - unless they had the Japanese Type-R front end conversion.

The 240SX is another good car - however I'm not very fond of the "truck" engine Nissan threw in there (for the US version). It has pretty good TQ and decent HP. One thing going for it is the RWD.

if you had 10grand to spend. i'd still suggest an integra. you wont spend much. probably for 5grand, you can get a decent GS-R coupe. heck, i'd go that route again. i regret selling my gsr 2 months ago

try looking at honda-tech.com or team-integra.net for integras, you cant go wrong with an integra (unless it's a POS integra lol)

or if u want a reliable truck get an S10! I want a beater as well especially for times like this (it's raining here) Vented hood + greddy TT + rain = not something I wanna drive. And not to mention the miles i've been puttin on it and the random rocks falling off the hill and hittin the side of my car, etc.

I'm so confused....

The reason I want a beater is just as an inbetween car. I'm planning to sell my G sedan now. In September they're coming out with the new G sedan, but I still would have to wait a few more months for the price to come down on those.

I appreciate you guys' responses, but I don't think the Integra is for me...I'm kind of overgrown for that car. (6'0 220 pounds)

I'm thinking of maybe a '98 lexus es 300, nice 4 door, some leather. Anyone know if those things are reliable past 100k?

lol, yea camry is an option too.

The problem is I have this vicious cycle every time I open up the autotrader. I look at Camry's and I'm like ok $7k for a 97 camry or whatever, then I'm like what if I spend a little more? And a little more? And a little more?

And then all of a sudden I'm looking at BMW m3's, I smack myself in the head, and I go back to looking at cheap cars...and then the cycle starts all over again...yea I'm nuts, I know.

have you considered a Honda Civic Del Sol Vtec?

thats what i drive for a beeter...

everyone that i let drive this 94 del sol always ends up making me an offer to buy this car from me. but my reply is always the same...its not for sale

i've been driving this car for over 10 years and well, it aint nothing compared to my 05 6mt, but its still fun as hell to drive

and when it starts getting old on you, just take the top off and you'll fall in love again

Buy a 90s Toyota pickup truck (not 4x4). They are pretty cheap and get decent gas mileage, plus you can haul stuff if you need to.
