For those of us who like to drive fast.....

California Highway Patrol will launch a 30-day speeding ticket frenzy in
South Orange County starting January 25, 2006. The state estimates that
22 million dollars will be generated in speeding tickets. 3 million will
go to pay California Highway Patrol officer overtime. There will be 90
California Highway Patrol officers on duty at all times patrolling the 7
freeways. They are the following: 73, 55, 133, 241, 57, 5, 605
freeways

Now 7 mph above the limit can justify a ticket and every California
Highway Patrol officers is supposed to pull a car over and write a
ticket every 10 minutes. They have issued 50 brand new unmarked Crown
Victoria cruisers and they are bringing all their part timers on full
time. If you live or work in South Orange County you must take one of
their freeways. It's up to you how fast you are doing when they do.
This is a test by the CHP to raise the extra funds for the State of
California. The wealthy folks of South Orange County can afford this new
tax. The California State Legislators dreamed up this law to help close
the budget gap or something like that. I was told KICU-FM confirmed all
of this. So be safe and don't forget speeding tickets are on you.

You've been warned.................

Isn't this one of those urban myths that pop up like clockwork every year?

There is no KICU FM except in Idaho, and KICU TV is a cable television station in San Jose.

Last night driving home on the 5 south where the 91 meets. I'm driving in the #1 and the carpool has this on-ramp like lane that merges with the fast lane. Because it was around 9pm, there's no traffic so you tend to speed. I was going 80mph and the benz in the carpool's going the same. Like I said, the carpool and #1 has this on-ramp type of merge and guess who's parked right at the middle? Mr. CHP with his radar gun. Guess he was gunning down for carpool lane speeders.

I thought a quota system in California is illegal.

Essentially, it is. But, if a supervising officer notices that an officer is "not producing" (finding vehicle code violators), they might question what the officer is doing while he is on duty.

I think he meant KUCI (UC Irvine) based broadcast. Even if he were correct, the station does exist...but the frequency is only picked up in OC, even more so closer to Irvine. Kind of how USC has thier own symphony station 91.5 that can be picked up in LA and a bit further.

Ha, whatever. I'd like to see them pull over someone every ten minutes in rush hour traffic, especially through the orange crush where over half of those highways are. hahahaha i never go faster than 15 mph anyways.
