Re: When are we forming the club?
Just curious, I've never been part of a car club before. What to do clubs do? What are some of the benefits, events, etc.? Are there existing club's we'd be modeling our selves after? As for a club website how will it differ from the excellent resources already available on sites like G35Driver or Fresh Alloy?

What do car clubs do?
Most car clubs will go through many phases as they grow. In the beginning, it is just a group of folks with the same cars hanging out and discussing mods (or restoration activities.) Then there are some stickers to put on your car to show affiliation with the like minded group. They hold cruises and get togethers, all at no cost. I think that's where we are with the G35driver forum.
Then you get a few people that start saying, hey wouldn't it be cool to have an even like "such and such", or a can we do a benefit for someone who is sick....As a car club, you can incorporate as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
This where you can go out and start getting sponsors for events, because they can write off their donations. You can start having shows that pull people in from all over because you are holding a raffle, or giving away trophies. As a non-profit you also enjoy a limited liability for activities that the group participates in or sponsors. Should something "bad" happen, thus only the corporations assets are at risk. You can also benefit from these other NP bennies (1) ability to use Public Service Announcements on local radio and television stations; (2) ability to use discounted space from Internet service providers; (3) lower postal rates on third-class bulk mailings, and (4) ability to use interns from local universities.
I, for one, think that G35driver.com is a great Forum!!! In fact, since it exists, it might not be a bad thing for this site to be the "top of of the food chain" for all G35driver clubs/chapters.
I belong the the Ford Galaxie Club of America I pay my dues to them and get their magazine, which has really grown over the last few years. I also get a "roadside assist" list, which has all Galaxie owners listed who are willing to help me get my Galaxie running should I breakdown somewhere. I think that's really cool...brothers helping brothers! We also get discounts for services and parts from many copmpanies, since I am a member of this large group. I also have the option of joining the local Southern California FGCA chapter. I think the SoCal chapter existed before joining up with the FGCA, but in doing so it gets a lot more visibility, and has a lot more support. The local chapter does charge, and they mostly just meet and have car shows.
There are some car clubs out their like lowrider club here in SoCal called USO. They started off small, and then chapters popped up throught the U.S. (even Guam!) They require their members to go thru a screening process before joining to show commitment, as well as have their cars "candied" in the California way.
Most clubs have rules that govern the safety and conduct of its members. You don't want members on the 6 o'clock news leading a 150mph chase down the 405 in the emergency lane.
Here are some suggestions for a G35 club's rules and mission statement:
1) Open membership (no stock or mod requirements)
2) Charter members - those who assist with the initial founding and formation of the club
3) Members - those who join after the club is incorporated and formed.
4) Affiliates - those who enjoy the G, but do not own one.
5) Honorary
6) Life
Aims and Objectives:
- to further motoring interest in the Infiniti G35
- to provide members with information, advice and assistance in matters of motoring
- to promote car shows, competitions and other motoring activities (in accordance with club rules...)
- to arrange tours, lectures, discussions, socials and other meetings
- to provide members such benefits and privileges, as may be possible to arrange.
===========
Of course, it can be as structured as you like - or loose as you like...however, the more structured and organized you are, the better chances of attracting dealer, sponsor, vendor attention.
All this stuff will be looked at, I am sure, when and if we finally decide to get around to organizing. G35Lin....what do you think...who is driving the actual club formation process?

Re: What do car clubs do?
I see. Very, cool indeed. Since you have vast knowledge in the matter and are very proactive "G". I vote for you as President with G35lin and Jedi as Vice Chairs! ;-)

Re: What do car clubs do?
Ha aha ha I don't wanna step on any toes and there's plenty of work to go around. I have some experience with forming clubs and corporations etc,, and am happy to just get the ball rolling. but it was G35Lin's idea (I think?)
Who was the one at the Valley meet that said, what do you guys think about forming a club? Was that Jedi? Or you G35Lin?
BTW - who actually runs the G35Driver forum??? What's his/her take on forming a real club?

SoCalTed:
I think you are all over this. You obviously know what you are doing, so I nominate you to chair this thing! Do not be modest, if you know what you are doing, then my all means take the lead.
This club sounds like fun.

Re: What do car clubs do?
I am all for a club.
SoCalTed, from your posts above, you seem like a knowledgeable person about car clubs. This would be a first for me to join a car club. So just letting you know, definitely interested in the more organized idea.
