I was refilling my wiper fluid the other day. I noticed the fluid in the steering fluid reservoir was bubbling or boiling (not sure if it was hot). The engine was running/idling while I was doing this. I had been driving for about 30 minutes before popping the hood so the engine was definitely warmed up. Is it normal for the steering fluid to be bubbling while the engine is running? If not, what could be the problem. Thanks.

I noticed it on my car just today as well while the engine was running.

 

happens all the time in the G's... you should see it after a hard run

Make sure the cap is on tight and you'll be okay AFAIK.

actually, I think what you guys are seeing isn't boiling but the fluid being returned back to the reservoir. The fluid is circulating constantly.

 

Yes, I just went through the process of trying to install an aftermarket tank but it was not designed properly. The fluid circulates rather aggressively so the tank needs to be chamber/baffled to contain it.

 

Care to provide some photos or links to this faulty product?

^what they overlooked is the fact that the OEM tank is actually vented. Their tank was sealed and started to burst at the seams.
