Washi aluminum finish removal

Does anyone have any experience with this? and/or does anyone know of any DIY for the removal of the washi finish?

I am looking into wrapping this surface for a different interior look.

Just by touching the washi, it looks like it just comes off with a flat head screwdriver. But I havent tried it. Anyone?

Thanks guys.

Sorry I can't answer your question on removal, but I'd love to see the Washi with a "candy" black finish, so the aluminum brush mark would show through. Black on dark grey would look pretty nice. Maybe even low gloss. Post photos when you are done.

I know from replacing my in cabin air filter that the alluminum trim just pops out of place when you remove the other trim.

You can probably just sand it down to be ready for paint.

Personally, I love the look of the stock trim.

i think he's talkin about the sword shaped washi under the passenger airbag, it pops out with your hands no tools needed, but go slow and carefully pull to avoid broken clips, i recommend downloading service manual to understand where the clips are for easy removal...

I did the dash and door trim on an Audi A4 which was similar to what is on the G35 dash. We used a paint stripper and it cleaned it right down to the bare aluminum.

Well... most people here don't take their interior apart for no reason. And I haven't seen anyone do what you're talking about on a G35.

where do I find this service manual? do you happen to have a link for it?

your not referring to the owners manual right? I looked through that and found nothing in relation to the washi trim removal.

thanks.

Did you get your interior painted black?

What I was thinking about is a CF wrap.

my dealer told me they could install aftermarket wood trim which i really wanted (no car color combos I wanted with OEM rosewood trim available in the entire area). so i bought a BO/wheat sedan and took the 450 dollar plunge for the trim.

turns out they had all the washi trim painted dark glossy wood grain and reinstalled into the car. i was seriously pissed when i found out it wasnt real wood, but when i saw it i loved the way it looked, so i let it go.

anyway point is it can be done, and done well.

Hey Wes What you planning on doing? Like just a CF wrap? I'm looking to see if I can get the Leather Carbon look like on the new M3!
