Some reason I prefer a heavy piece. Never CC'd my DE but I would have if I coulda found a good holster. Didn't know about the moon clips. I chose the Governor because I already load .45ACP. Guess I could get the dies for .45LC and buy off-the-shelf .410.

As far as rifles go, I actually shoot more consistently with a heavy rifle.

 

I'm not sure of the weight difference because this is the first judge but comparing it to my glock 26(both unloaded),the judge feels a tad bit heavier.ive been cc'ing it for the past couple days in a pocket holster with no issues and it's preaty comfortable.
I was considering the s&w governer but didn't think it was worth the extra money just to shoot 45acp. this gun looks awesome and Im really happy with my purchase.

Didn't feel like opening a new thread about a gun when this one should do fine. I'm a novice gunsmith. That is to say I can read and follow instructions for disassembly and assembly. I own a Springfield 1911-A1 Government model (the green parkerized one with the walnut grips). I've been interested to modify it a bit. I stumbled across this:

I think this would be a great start. Currently the gun is bone stock original. Some of the reviews said they changed the recoil spring to get it to cycle. It has a 16lb spring in it.

1st question - will I need to get a different recoil spring to make a compensator work right? If so, why?

2nd question - the literature for this gun says that compensators can be dangerous, such as copper jacket flaking off and coming out the ports. Is this really a problem for a gun such as this with this quality of parts being put on it?

Any input is welcome. For the money and the quality, I'd do this in a heartbeat. Let me know what you think?

 

1st question - I think not , but if it does you will find out pretty quick you see the compensator cuts the back pressure and the slide might not go back enough to eject the shell, but enough to **** the hammer. So for each shot, you would have to manually pull the slide back to eject each shell. At that time get a spring , no biggie

2nd question - When the shell leaves the barrel it will expand a little when shotting a hollow point and as it goes through the compensator it will splinter, so I would only shoot FMJ bullets. It's just not safe to shoot anything else. Compensator's are used mainly for composition shooting at which time you only shoot FMJ. If you want to use this gun for CC or home defense I would get a heavy AKA bull barrel instead. IMO

Response to 2nd response - I reload. I stick to 240Gr JRN. Just made sense to use RN slugs with a feed ramp like on the 1911. I wouldn't necessarily say it will be used for home defense, but I need to trust it in the event that's the closest gun available. I figured the compensator would steady the pistol out a bit with the few extra ounces forward of the grip. Plus it has a nice "wow" appearance factor. I would love to compete someday, but I'm not financially equipped to keep up with some of the hardcore competition shooters out there.

 

Q1- yes
Q2-Most if not all 45acp FMJ (ball ammo) is RN . The FMJ means as you probably know full metal jacket, and in rifles are usually tipped and on pistols round and revolvers are flat. yours should work great.

FYI the reason I have a compensator on mine is the deflection of gasses cause the nose of the pistol to rise less when fired making it more accurate of the the second shot when double or triple tapping.

I love the hogue grip on the Ruger LCP it makes it allot easier to hold on to, nice touch

 

Brownell's or MidwayUSA should have different spring weights?

I'm pretty sure Ranier ballistics make FMJ FN slugs too. My .40 S&W loves 155Gr and 180Gr FN. I stuck with RN on the .45 just because that's what was originally developed for use on the Colts.

I doubt I would have a problem getting the comp barrel to work in there then. Lockup on this gun is still relatively tight as I have less than 250 rounds put through it. I like the thought that with less muzzle flip I can regain target acquisition and push the next shot sooner.

 

I carry a Glock 30 .45acp.... Still trying to find a good spot to keep it easily accessible but still concealed in the G. In my Lincoln I just stick it down between the seats with armrests down... cant see it at all. Any ideas guys?
