2003 G35 Tranny issues 3rd gear grind!!!

I have read a few posts about 3rd or 5th gear grinds when shifting quickly, isn't this car made to be sporty?

I'm looking to get a used 2003 g35 with only 25000KM on it, but I've noticed a 3rd gear grind which the seller advise will bring into Infiniti to fix, if Infiniti replaces the transmission will the car be ok after? Will quick shifting ever be a problem again?

If the transmission is replaced by infiniti, I would think the car would be fine... Quick shifting shouldn't be a problem either, as long as you are doing it right... I've heard of this problem too, and it seems like the fix is to replace the tranny, then life is grand.

Good luck on the buy

Hmmm sounds fishy to me. If I was selling a car I would have it fixed first and then list it for sale. Maybe Infiniti has blacklisted the car due to mods that were removed. I would probably pass on this one till the transmission is replaced.

Thats good to hear. Today is the first day I've really driven the car when its been pretty cold out overnight. I consistently ground 3rd gear 4 times. I was going about 20 mph and my driving was very relaxed. I heard the grind once, then I shifted out of 3rd and back into 2nd. Then I shifted back into 3rd, GRIND. I did that several times... At that point it was time to get on the highway, and by the time I got off it was obviously warmed up. I couldn't get it to grind again. I will wait and see if it grinds again tomorrow morning (its supposed to be pretty cold tonight...). I already have an appointment with the dealership to get this taken care of. I hope a new tranny is in store for me, because this is really disappointing.

I got my car back from the dealership yesterday. I was able to reproduce the problem with the guy behind the desk (he wasnt a mechanic). He said he heard the grind in the tranny.
A little later he said that the actual mechanic took it for a test drive and could not reproduce the problem. He said they were going to call Infiniti and see what they said. At this point, Im thinking about what I am going to say in arguement to the service manager if they decide not to perform any warranty work.
A little later they called back and told me that they ordered a new transmission that should be in within a week. He said on top of that, Infiniti wanted them to just replace the clutch as well!!! ALL under warranty!

Needless to say, Im psyched about the way it turned out. 41k miles and a new tranny and clutch going in. This should be good in getting the car to high mileage without too many issues!
