I was told that piggyback ecu management only results in a temporary tune. Reason being that the OEM ECU just compensates through closed-loop operation and tunes out the change over a week or so. This makes sense to me because I have a powercommander on my FJR1300 and it requires that the O2 sensor be disconnected. Then the ECU reverts to a default safemode map and stays that way so that the PC map stays in effect.
From what I am told, the only way for permanent change to closed-loop on a sophisticated ECU like the G has, is for a complete reflash like Technosquare. The UTEC seems only to kick in at pre-determined throttle positions, so maybe it is a better custom solution. But I am sceptical of the Unichip as a long-term solution. Any thoughts on this?

I've wonderd the same thing, but others told me that the changes remain (e.g., change the timing and it's still at the change when they check it a few months later)
Hmmm. I can understand the timing remaining the same, but the A/F would get dialed right back to where the stock ECU wants it. Would be interesting for Unichip guys to go back and do a follow-up dyno with A/F a month after the initial tune and see where they are.

I may have something close to this situation. My Unichip tuning is mostly done. Hot weather conditions made full tuning difficult, so the tuner gave up for the day. Once we get a cooler weather (mid 80s or so), we'll get back together and finish the tuning. We'll see if the A/F stays where he put it. I'll keep everyone posted.Originally Posted by ballisticus
