Tune Options?
Guys,
I have been researching the topic of tunability on our cars, and have come up with at least two viable options for an entry level person to go with as far as tuning is concerned. When I decide on what cat-back, I will have the following mods: K&N drop in, 5/16" spacer and of course the cat-back. I can try to get the most out of those few mods, because I really do not want to dive into the deep end as far as modding. I can go with the Technosquare re-flash, and HOPE I get a tune that works well with my mods, and future cat-back mod. If it doesn't work, I have to take it out and send it back, and HOPE I get a better flash. That is about $500 for the technosquare re-flash.
I can also choose to go with the Unichip plug and play module, which allows for tuning without the hassle of sending ECUs back and forth, BUT it is like almost $900.
For what I have (which isn't much) can my stock ECU just compensate for the mods, or should I choose to optimize my combo?
Any thoughts, reviews, success stories or failures with any of these products is greatly appreciated.

The Accessport is supposed to be out soon.

or you could learn how to tune yourself, which i'm looking into right now, and buy a UTEC....i'm not too sure how much you know about the UTEC but the UTEC is a piggyback system to your ECU which you can alter voltages, timings for the sensors in our Gs.
From what I understand, Unichip won't cost that much but the idea is kinda like the technosquare. Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but I think unichip has pre-programmed maps created by the unichip company. given what mods you have, you send in the unichip and they'll create a map for you and you just plug it in to use the created map. this essentially isn't a REAL tune because who's to say that they tuned the timings, the AFR correctly for your car because all cars behave differently.
Another product is the Cipher from Altered Atmosphere. I don't know too much about this but I know MechEE has bought it and he's pretty well versed in the Cipher already.
Look into more units. You got Apex'i SAFC-II, Greddy Emanage, etc.
Hmmm, i need to check out the AccessPort...anything new is good =)

The Accessport can be tuned for the individual vehicle. You just need the software (sold separately from the unit) and a computer (oh and a dyno). It is supposed to be user friendly (read user tuneable). Read this from their web forum (see bold area).
The COBB AccessPORT is a handheld programmer used to upload pre-programmed maps to the ECU via the OBD-II port in a matter of minutes. No cutting, wiring, or other modification is required. Once the data has been uploaded, you can disconnect the AccessPORT and your tuned data stays on the ECU. Or, you can leave it connected and use the AccessPORT as a digital display for engine parameters.
In addition, you can connect the AccessPORT to your PC (Windows, Mac, or Linux) and stay up to date with the latest calibrations by downloading them from our website. (USB required)
The quick feature list is:
Reprogram factory ECU (Engine Control Unit) with tuned data
Maintains factory ECU capabilities and safety features providing completely seamless functionality
Realtime modification of tuned data
Realtime log display of engine parameters (air/fuel ratio, ignition, etc)
Read engine trouble codes and display
Comes with prepackaged stage and convenience maps
Upgrade to custom-tuned map through authorized AccessPORT ProTUNER
Load custom tuning data for your specific vehicle and modifications provided by an authorized AccessPORT ProTUNER or upgrade to the StreetTUNER package for do-it-yourself tuning
Uninstall ability that reverts back to 100% stock map that was on your ECU originallyMeasure 0-60 mph and 1/4 mile times
Currently we expect to have support for all year model 350Z and G35 and will be providing the ProTUNER tuning software to other Z/G specialist so those of you that want custom tuning (ie: turbo kits, etc) can do so with the AccessPORT.

My friend has a cobb accessport on his 02 wrx, will it work on my 06g35 or how can i get it to work? Im thinking of going nitrous soon! You thinking emanage/ultimate would be better, because I would like to use it for my greddy turbo miata as well? thanks
Guys,
On the '04 non-Rev Up with the following mods:
Stillen cat Back
Crawfordz cats
5/16" spacer
K&N Drop in & Z-Tube
Will I need a tune? To be safe or just get the most out of my combination?
I ask this because of a few threads i have read regarding a lean condition after installing cats....
