Another Church Automotive/UpRev-Osiris Tune
#16
here is the reply to my questions from Matt regarding FI with osiris.
I have a few questions regarding the osiris software.
>>
>> 1. Can it be used to tune a turbo car with a built engine?
>>
>> 2. I have 440cc injectors will this cause a problem?
>>
>> 3. I'm presently using a SS box will it work in conjunction or can I
>> get rid of it?
>>
>> 4. I'm using a JWT FMU will osiris be able to control it.
>>
>> 5. Can the knock sensors parameters be adjusted like the UTEC or
>> safeguard?
Fm Matt:
I have a couple answers, but not all at the moment.
1. Yes.
2. Yes/No. Shawn may need our support to dial this in 100% but we have
tuned for 440cc's before.
3. you will be removing the ss box.
4. do not yet have an answer for this.
5. No. factory knock sensors/levels are in place. we can adjust the
secondary timing map so that when it does switch it really pulls back
timing, but the threshold will be the same.
I'll get back to you on the FMU when I have an answer.
Cheers,
Matt

Right on Mike! Great results.
Shawn always does a good job tuning. In fact, I need to bring my sedan to him too for the Osirus tune.
Osirus is so much cleaner and better than a Greddy EMU.
When I'm driving the Sedan around with the family, the EMU and all its associated spaghetti wires all over the place is nothing but trouble waiting to happen.
My wife knows to avoid the wire harneses but my mother in law and 4 year old daughter don't pay attention to them.
One accidental kick or pull on the wires, and who knows what will happen.

I need to go back... Shawn played with the throttle plate position (more open when ECU thinks it's less)... but it doesn't seem as "now" as the TS did... it could be that the lean state he tuned it to is pulling timing? I don't know, but I've driven it quite a bit today (street and fwy) and it's just lacking punch off idle and at WOT at various rolling speeds... in 5th at 70 or 80 when I drop it to 4th it doesn't have an immediate thrust like it did before - it's more of a gradual pull... Like the Infiniti "Wave of Acceleration" that they touted during the HR (07 sedan) marketing campaign... I'm all for continued acceleration - but I like the right now trq that I had before... Plus it seems like the shifts are slightly slower - upshift and downshift...
More driving to get better feel...

Mike, you are making me wan't the Osiris like...now! After installing the test pipes that I should be receiving next week, and installing the MREV2 which I, believe it or not, have not ordered yet (seeing how its the "best" bang-for-buck mod on a revup), I think I might be ready for the Osiris (few months from now).
I think I will also be getting headers & cams, but nowhere near in sight as of right now. Don't have the financial flexibility I did 6 months ago.
Also, I really hope Osiris gets to the point where it can be a completely replacement to EM systems like the UTEC.

That would be a complete waste of money. Osiris offers everything that TS offers plus a little more. Like Mike said, he only had both because he already had a TS prior to the Osiris.

Call or PM me about the lower collector. Also, give Shawn some time to get some tunes under his belt before you go... He's very capable, but I think as time goes on it will get better... That's one thing TS has going - Tadashi has seen soooooo many of these motors, he plugs in, sets some parameters, drives around, tweaks a bit and WHAM! It's there~!
Shawn knows his **** without a doubt, but I think the more VQs he does and the more feedback he gets, the better the tunes will be.
I need to talk with him about some things. I'm $1200 into tunes (N/A) ... you can buy me a coke (for being your guinea pig) when it's all said and done and you are ripping my tonsils out on the track

Mike,
If you'd like some more low end we can add some timing in, but generally that's where you get some knock. In our experience (including on my formerly TS flashed 05 G35C) TS likes to run a lot of timing advance. Given that your torque converter doesn't let you spend much time below 3k rpm, I'd be more than happy to throw in a couple more deg down there and see if you like it. As always, there is never a charge for any follow up work.

FWIW - the car feels a little like it did after HFC before A/F was adjusted (not a slug, but slightly detuned)... I'm far from expert and even if I didn't see the A/F I would have the same impression...
How bout this - I bring the car - pay for your expertise and get a shirt
I have the Osiris license I'll pay for the Shawn tune!!! TS charges for tweaks even after initial re-flash... It's fair the Church Automotive should too... I wonder if real world driving makes any diff - as compared to dyno?... Can you Gurgen/Tadashi it and drive the ***** out of my car to see what it's doing from 650-3K?.... (my name is Mike Smith - in case this post shows up in court through my insurance company )
Also, is there any chance that the throttle position is not full at WOT?… because it has this “swell”… like I said, kinda like the Nissan/Infiniti ad – it’s a gradual acceleration…. Off idle and at about every mph & rmp I’ve been able to decipher… it’s like when something catches your eye, it takes a minute, then you focus… the car does that when I want it to zoom in NOW! Previously it was like – glance, BAM it’s there!… I don’t know how better to describe it… With your tune the dyno (and truly driving) gets it farther, but seems to take longer. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to tell how that would relate to the track (closed today) but street and fwy it just seems to take a while… 70-80 for example is too gradual, but continues to 90 as strong (this is 5K range)… I guess on autocross this tune might work?… For street and ¼ mile it’s a little off….
I don’t know how to put the driving feel into words actually… there are two free maps (if we ditch the econo tune)… I’d like to get as aggressive as possible in one and see what it does.
Okay, we don’t need to talk now. Let’s make the phucker fast!@

*** Update (12/13/07)… Shawn’s customer service is outstanding! After letting him know my concerns about low end and the lack of punch (as compared to the TS tune) he graciously agreed (here and in person) to plug in with Osiris and custom tune during spirited drives… The dyno tune wasn’t getting below 3K rmp were I was expecting…
Granted it’s only been ½ day since the re-tune/tweaked tune – but I couldn’t wait to express my complete satisfaction!!!! It ROCKS!! Thanks a bunch Shawn
Advancing the timing a bit down low, tweaking the cam angle a bit, tweaking throttle plate position in lower rmp – and whatever else Shawn did made a VERY noticeable difference!!!!! I have the low-end trq that I was missing, it pulls strong through the entire rmp – my off idle launch is FUN! The car is what TS was and then some! I can truly say I am very pleased.
Clearly Osiris is versatile and able to get the most out of what the car is capable of. Additionally, Shawn is very impressive with his ability to hear what my concerns were (in complete layman’s avg guy driving terms) and dialed in exactly what was needed to make the car respond precisely how I expected (and in fact beyond expectation, actually got it to what I had “hoped" for).
A+++ for Osiris and Church automotive Testing!
BTW – I wasn’t able to get the car on the drag strip after previous tune, but next Thurs plan to get on 1/8 mile track… I’m confident that I will be satisfied with the results! But time will tell (literally ET).

My acceleration is very gradual as you described. Do you happen to know the ETC settings Church used when he tuned your car (hopefully he will be able to share them ). I would like for Jared@uprev to use your settings to see if this helps.
The most impressive thing to me is Shawn listened to what I was after and nailed it. If you are in CA I suggest going to him - if not, try to fond someone near you that is certified with Uprev and let them know what your needs are... If you are looking for the same performance/characteristics that I was, then Shawns tune for me will work well.
Keep in mind the mods I have... clearly if you aren’t similar the car won’t respond the same if you do an identical reflash... other than whats in my sig I have a slightly modified upper collector (friend, DaveO smoothed down some of the casting flash on critical flow points).
I must say I was wondering if I made a big mistake when I wiped out the TS reflash - but after Shawns 2nd tweaking I am very satisfied (I must always mention that I still endorse TS, it is a very good tune too).
