03-04 Drivers Do you shift above 6500 after flash ?
03-04 Drivers Do you shift above 6500 after flash ?
I recently got tuned and love the results.. I am going to post a thread with the results shortly but I am curious how many of you guys take your RPMS passed the OEM redline....
I have nothing but my butt dyno to let me know if its worth shifting passed 6500 rpms , the tuner didnt really go passed 6500 atleast on the dynograph i have but i can tell it is falling off...
My intake starts to scream really loud, reminds me of my s2000 intake, after 6500 rpms almost like obnoxious and i dont know if its doing any good.
Do you guys take your cars to the max ? Anyone ever go to the track and experiment with shift points ?
Any help is apreciated !

I wouldn't think you're making any significant power past redline even with the tune. Remember, its all about the average power under the curve. Shifting too late might push you into lower average power throughout the gears.
IMO, the only reason to raise the limiter on the non-revups is to avoid frequently bouncing off it.
Unless you had some aftermarket cams along with other internal modifications, I would just shift at redline under most circumstances.

There are boatloads of variables...
I'll only comment on my situation - I have 3.7 fd in an AT, I can't make it though a 1/4 mile in 3rd without reving past stock rev limit... I had it bumped to 7200 a few years ago (even before the gears)... with 3.7 FD even with rev limit set at 7200 I had to max out revs in 1st and 2nd and time it perfect in order to finish in 3rd without hitting limiter.
Since then I've had cams installed and added a few safeguards to rev to 7500 - this way I have more than 100rmp wiggle room (like before) and never hit rev limiter at track.
So to answer your question - yes. Other people will have other reasons for doing so... but bottom line is lots and lots of people have their rev limit bumped with a tune. For the DE 7200 is max, going past that with stock internals is not a good idea.
