'04 vs. '07

Hi all. I apologize if this topic has been posted already. I did a quick search but couldn't find much of anything.
so here's the thing. I was going through some spec sheets for the '04 and '07 g35s and from what I can tell they're pretty much the same car. even the engine specs line up. But, the '07 has almost 30 more horses out of the box than the '04.
Is there a real difference between the two cars or is it just a difference i the way the ECU is tuned. If it's the ECU, can I have my '04 tuned to the '07 spec and get the same HP rating? and would it be safe for the car?
If anyone can help answer this one I'd appreciate it or if you could point a newb in the right direction...

the 05-07 6mt's recieved a revup engine that has upgraded cams, ecu, and lower plenum and a few other goodies that makes the additional hp. It is not just in the tune

kinda figured but I had heard that you could get an '07 tune from the dealership. perhaps it was wishful hearing...

That wouldn't make any sense. You would be worse of with this "07 tune" than OEM since its not the appropriate tune for a non revup. Besides, I've never heard of a dealer doing any tunes and wouldn't trust any of those mechanics to do so.

Like Redlude stated, there's more to it than just a tune.

And the additional hp only applies to the MT cars...the AT's do not have the rev up engine.

The AT's haave 275 hp and the MT rev ups have 298, as far as I know that is the only difference..some of the rev ups have oil consumption issues but from what I have read they have been replaced under warranty.

There are more things that should turn your eye to the 07. 19in wheels, projector headlights, sport package option. They just look much better!

And one thing on the power increase. Don't expect to get the 07 and be able to run over an 03-04 model with brembos. Drivers race. And I am game for any NA 06/07 coupe that wants to have a friendly test of that.

Rival,
noticed you have the rev-up air box instead of the many other intake options that I've seen. I just ordered a JWT pop charger myself. I'm wondering if i made the wrong choice...

Tons of info on the stock air box versus other intakes. I just never saw great results with anything. I opted for the ztube to smooth out the air flow and the rev-up airbox for the larger velocity stack and then the K&N drop in filter. Still was about $250 on intake upgrades. All mods together have been solid at the track and dyno so can't complain. The JWT pop charger will sound mean though.

Acutally out of the two G's I have raced one of them is a sedan. IvoryPearl07G. He has raced several 350z's and G's though so I have a good idea of how I compare.

I see you are in Mobile. Next time we go to Steele Drag Strip would you be game for meeting up? Fun times! Shoot me a PM if you are game.
