Hey guys,
I read through the other thread about the Hypertech programmer last week, and decided to be a guinea pig for other early ECU G35's by buying one.
Here are a couple of pics:
The kit comes with the following:
-Hyptertech handheld unit
-OBD to Hyptertech connection cord
-Hyptertech to PC USB cord
-Installation CD
-Stickers, etc.
Before I pulled the trigger, I called Hypertech, and talked to a tech that assured me that it was probably covered. I decided to take a chance either way.
Yesterday I got the programmer, and plugged it in. It did not work. The first sign of trouble was when it read my ECU as an 05-07 model year, and then it gave me an Error: 74 readout on the display. I took this as an obvious sign that it was not compatible with the early ECU's.
I called Hypertech right after the unit failed to connect, and the tech I talked to was aware of the Error 74 code, and said that a few others called with the same problem. He said that Hypertech was aware of the problem, and that they would release an update within 1-2 weeks. After everything I've heard about Hypertech, I am under the impression that they have excellent customer service, so I hope that they can make a unit that works for our early ECUs! Hypertech is a larger company than some of the traditional G35 ECU tuners, so they may be able to program for the early cars whereas some other tuners cannot justify the time investment.
After reading the other thread, I am unsure if they came out with the update today, or if they will have it ready within the time frame I was quoted over the phone.
I will be sure to keep this thread updated, and when everything works out, I'll post a before/after dyno comparision with the unit

UPDATE: I know I haven't posted anything new about the programmer in a bit, so I thought I'd give everyone an update.
I've been talking with Jay and Chris from Hypertech, and they've been very helpful.
Here's what's new:
-Hypertech bought an early ECU G35 to test
-They do not think it will be an issue to make it work with the programmer
-They gave me a special software update that made the car spit out more information about the load error(s). Today, I sent back what my unit spit out, and hopefully there will be an answer from the techs tomorrow, or soon after.
This is taking a bit of time, but I am willing to wait it out. Hopefully support for the early ECU will become available soon, and the early build date guys will have an option besides TS/AAM.

If you're an early 04, you'll probably be fine. You should just get your VIN and call up Uprev to see if they support you. If they don't, you probably have the early ECU. I think if your ECU ends in 004 or earlier, you're out of luck (something like that).

The reason that early 2003s don't have support and other companies haven't done anything is because its an entirely different computer code than the rest of the ECUs. Its too much work for most companies to do all that work for what they consider a "limited market"

Early 2003 were built between 06/02 and 11/02 i believe. You definetly do not have an early 2003. Doggy doors are all early 2003s.

Mine is an 02/02, so I guess I'm really screwed, hahah.

Also, where are you located? If you're close to MD/CA AAM and Technosqaure can do a dyno tune on the early ECU cars.
Hypertech Update:
I left a message for Chris late in the day. We'll see what he says tomorrow. I'll probably give him a call anyway.

Hypertech Update
I talked to Chris today, and he said that an engineer is working on the code for my car/the early ECU cars. He said they have been working on it since I sent them the information from my unit a day or two ago.
I will call back mid-week next week to see if they've made any progress. Chris said that they would call me if something was finished earlier.
EDIT: It may be available earlier, I'll keep this thread updated. If there's anything meaningful, I'll post it up tonight.
