untuneable ECU?

So i have heard from a couple of people that the earlier g35 sedans had an almost untuneable ECU... is this true and how do you tell if you have one? What exactly are you limited on if your an unfortunate owner of one?

^PM me your VIN number and I'll let you know if you have the old (near-impossible to tune) ECU or the new one.

A swap may be possible, read this thread: http://forums.maxima.org/all-motor/6...-ecu-swap.html

Well, I think a tune would be VERY useful for your mods, esp. if you have the headers.

Wire it an eManage and get sometime to tune it. I plan to do that after I mess around with my transmission.

PM Tollboothwilley, he did it on his, and he can give you some advice. It shouldn't be too hard, or expensive.

Thats pretty much the only option left for us right now. I plan on doing it this spring/summer when I have the time (and after I find a good tuner in the area).

Theres more info on this forum, you just have to search.

Search for "doggy door style ecu" and "2003 ecu" and you should find something. There is a discussion on switching the 03 ecu with an 04 which talks about the differences in ECU's, try to find that if you want to learn more.

so i did some more researching on my car and everything i have read does not match what i found on my car. By defintion my car should have the Halogen headlights, doggy door trunk, gray plug ECU, and mechanical fan, yet my car has a smooth trunk, black plug ecu, and factory electric fans and HID headlights.

My production date is 03/03 and the last digits of my VIN are 327717 and according to NFSP the ecus didnt change until after 329287, did i just get lucky or is it possible there are other cars like this?

ECU

Fan area

trunk

^Unplug your ECU and take a picture of the plug on the ECU itself.
That will tell the story 100%.

You're not alone. I have a black connector, HID's (they were an option), and smooth trunk...I do have a mechanical fan though...and still have the old style ECU.

Like NFSP said though, take a pic of the pins and you'll know for sure.

HIDs and smooth trunk tell you nothing.

The electric fans though... I wasn't aware of any old ecus with electric fans, but the FSM from Nissan says you have the older ecu.
It would be one of the very very last ones though if it does.

Either way, the pins don't lie.
