CAM Position Sensors, weird, HELP BAD
CAM Position Sensors, weird, HELP BAD
I've search and search
Here's the entire story in a nut shell.
I have a 05' G35 Coupe.
I replaced the motor with a VERY Low mileage block (3k mi) back in May of Last year(10'). Ever since the install the motor has been sluggish. A lot less power than the original. I new something was different.
Well since then I have put 30k miles on the car and still trying to figure it out. (Long story why it took me so long to try to fix it)
I had never gotten a Check engine light(CEL) at all in the 30k miles.
I got a wild hair after researching to replace the passenger side Cam position sensor, so I bought and replaced the Passenger side with a Sensor from RockAuto. $44.
I drive it and about ten minutes I get a Check Engine light and the car is getting weaker.
I'm getting P0021. So I figure I need to replace the Driverside, so a few more days later I do.
I replace the drivers side last night and it codes both P0011 and P0021 immediately. So I am confused and the car is like a snail with a CEL on.
I go home and change the Passenger side back to the original because I am thinking that I never had a CEL at all until I changed the CPS and then let it idle for about 20 minutes. No CEL.
This morning I drive for about 30 miles and the top end feels great (over 5k rpms) but the bottom end is still sluggish. Then the CEL comes back on around the 30 mile mark and the code is P0021 again....
I am lost. Both New sensors don't seem to work.
It is currently telling me that the driverside is bad after I just installed the new sensor. BUT when I re-installed the original passenger sensor the top end opened up.
I'm REALLY confused to what needs to be done now.
I wonder if Rock Auto will swap sensros for different one since they didn't work.
Is there a way to test them with a Ohm Meter or something?
This is the passenger side, i replaced the one with the green connector.
On the driverside, no pic, but I replaced the one with the black plug with green push button in it.

What is the other sensor in black there? There are two sensors on each Head. Should I be replacing those? Are those different codes?

I have to say, Rock Auto has a great return policy. They are swapping out my bad sensors for new ones. I know a lot of companies do not do that since it's a electronic item. GOOD Customer service, I thought I might have to eat the $100+ I spent. Hopefully the next set of sensors will be good. I'm sure every batch has a bad couple sensors and I get them. LOL .
I pulled the driverside out to send it back with the passenger side and tested it with a ohm meter. Two out of the 3 pins on both the original and the new sensor have resistance of 3ohms but the far left pin had nothing.
So my assumption is that both are bad BUT the original does not trip the Check engine light like the new one does. Weird
I will test the new ones before installing them.

Well, I ordered another set as I said. I put them in and it ran like crap again. I called Rock Auto and they are giving me a refund. I am going to buy the Nissan OEM parts. I pray they will work properly.
